Peppers Vs Clady

That is an incredibly good stat. Aren't most good QBs in the 30s?

I really liked Clady in the draft and would still favor him seeing how well Otah has panned out. We could have stuck Clady at LT and kept Gross at RT. It's not like Clady is a small lineman and bad run blocking, he's just much better at pass blocking imo.

Clady had a couple of knocks on him going into the draft that are textbook examples of over analyzing by draft gurus. He pitched a less than steller 16 on the worthless Wonderlic, het picked up the most complicated offense in the NFL from day 1. He also played against supposedly inferior competition at Boise State, but he's stonewalled the NFL's top DE's every week...go figure. His run blocking is not as good yet but he's getting there. Against the Chiefs last week he wiped out a linebacker 20 yards downfield on a running play...that's a 325 pounder getting to the second level. It will come...for now we're just glad he's got Jay's back. Shanahan has been reluctant to draft OL guys in the top of the draft...fortunately he departed from that in this case.

Denver's O-line is on pace to allow the 3rd fewest sacks in NFL history. They have only allowed 8 sacks all year, but 3 of those sacks were credited to backs and TE's.

Clady has only given up .5 a sack this year I can't wait to see what he does against arguably the best DE in the NFL.

Stats are for losers. But if you wanna a stat

Tampa had only given up one rushing td all season until monday night, now they have given up 5. So your stats can be thrown out the window. It's what you do on the field at that moment

Clady tho a rookie this year is having a great season and proving he can hang with some big boys. 0 sacks to Porter/ 0 Sacks to Abraham. How do you think Peppers will do against him? I say 1.5 sacks on his side and 2 sacks not against him.

I pray he totally tears his @ss up....

That's a good post. People don't realize how well Clady has been playing. Remember we've been throwing more than other teams, have not had a consistent running game, and have been trailing late in games where defenses know we're going to throw. It's basically a worst case scenario for a tackle. Despite this he's only surrendered half a sack and stonewalled some of the best. And this knock on Clady's run blocking is exaggerated. He started out slow, but remember our line has had 8 different starters at RB, so it's been hard for all our linemen to get into any kind of rhythm in the run game. Clady was destroying players in the last game. Safeties were running away from him on the toss sweeps. I mean he played a zone-run scheme in college so it's not like he's a moron out there.

As for going against Peppers, I don't think Peppers gets a sack. I'm not saying that to be rude, I just think the more speed burst players haven't given him a problem this year. He tends to struggle (again this is relative as he's not really been beat that much this year) against power ends.

So which do you qualify Peppers as? A speed DE or a power DE? Because anybody who has watched him much will tell you that he is both and that is what makes him so good. Much like a Strahan type DE, he can run by you on one play and then straight flat back a tackle on the next play.

Clady has been very good this year, so has Pep. Its pretty much a toss up, I know this though, if they single him up on Pep all day, Pep will get his sack.

    • That's my biggest concern with making him the 2C.  You split up the Aho Jarvis bromance that accounted for a lot of points.  If Jarvis excels as a C, it could help the team even more though.
    • The Saints being that high is the one that killed me. Chris Olave might not know his name at this point, Shaheed is coming off injury as well, so 31 year old Brandin Cooks might be your best WR...coming off a 260 yard season over 10 games. Kamara is Kamara, but didn't have 1,000 yards last year and is about to turn 30.  Toss in the fact that Taysom Hill may be the best QB on the team and I truly don't understand Barnwell's thoughts beside seeing the names "Olave" and "Kamara" and going yep, that sounds better than "Chuba" and "Thielen".
    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
