Any eBay Sellers Here?

I work at PayPal...there is no conspiracy going on. If you have a problem, call them. They will try to resolve the dispute as best they can. I don't use eBay because I don't trust the person on the other end of the line...that and their UI is butt ugly and 20 years out of date.

There a ton of people out there trying to take advantage of anything they can, and eBay provides a way for them to do that. eBay is built on trust and the concept that people are generally good...it says so right on my badge. :)

When that works, it's great. When it doesn't, people get pissed off and blame the system. You can't blame eBay or PayPal if someone lies to you and takes your stuff. What you can do is dispute it, both with eBay and PayPal, and they will do the best that they can to resolve it. PayPal eats disputed claims all the time.

From my own personal experience paypal doesnt eat anything - the seller eats it - and I have talked with paypal reps on the phone and it did no good - nice as they were over the phone, when they made their decision I lost - not them and not the buyer.

Yeah i sell on ebay from time to time but i'm going to stop, its just too rigged to get screwed over...

paypal holds the payment until "they can confirm delivery" so now all the buyer has to do is claim they never received the item and get a refund, got the money and the item then...paypal makes that so easy for them now...

Yeah paypal blows dick. Im selling tires on ebay. They hold my money for 21 days which i crazy. In the end it is defintely set up to screw the seller not the buyer. Plus ebay owns paypal so they make 12% off every transaction which im sure if you have to eat a sale they dont account for. ive called then explain how big a crock of poo the hold is, they dont care.

All you have to do is call them to release the funds if the tracking is shown as 'delivered'.

I received an email from Paypal today telling me the money was now available to me and I scheduled a transfer to my bank. So the delivery confirmation with USPS was at least good for that, but the buyer still hasn't made a claim with eBay. They messaged me back and said they'd wait a few more days and that they hope it arrives soon.

Still not sure how this is going to end. The buyer seems nice enough after messaging them a few times. Hopefully the package turns up. If not it'll be a headache.

  • 2 weeks later...

To update anyone who was interested or anyone interested in eBay in general, the buyer did open a case as the item never arrived. Today eBay ruled in my favor and stated that the delivery confirmation showed the item had been shipped. I do not have to refund the buyer.

I probably won't sell any 'expensive' (relative term but a 3DS is worth much to me) items on eBay ever again, though. It's just not reliable when you exam the system closely. It relies entirely on the buyer and seller being honest, the USPS workers being honest, the buyer living in a safe neighborhood, etc.

There are all kinds of " buyer" scammers out there and they have lots of ways of making themselves look legit to paypal and e bay and the sellers - e bay and paypals idiotic rules make it easier for them to successfully complete their scams.

I just bought something off ebay and it also had delivery confirmation with tracking, I tracked it till it was out for delivery. It never came that day and the tracking update said it had been delivered. Went to the post office and raised hell, somehow the package arrived the next day.

I've sold over 100 computers on ebay, I used Fed-ex only with tracking, insurance only if they paid for it because the first hundred was covered & never had a problem.

Sometimes Letter carriers just for get to check their packages. They shouldn't scan them until they actually deliver, but sometimes they scan them by mistake. Seems to happen a lot when they have tem help.

Anyway, I have had that happen several times. A package will say delivered and be here. It always arrives the next day.

Back to the original question. I won't ship unless I have insurance and delivery confirmation & tracking. It has saved me several time over disputes that the buyer has never received something. Like magic, when they lose their dispute with PayPal, the package always seems to show up!

I've only had 2 really hinky problems. 1 was the package just never showed up. I refunded his money and 2 weeks later the package arrived back at my house. Said bad address. I used the address he provided. (It was going to Greece.) I mailed a magazine ot to Dallas Georgia last year. Media Mail with tracking. 2 weeks it never got there. The guy was irate with me, so I refunded his money. (I kept telling him to wait.) 3 days later, USPS showed it was out for deilivery and delievered. He never offered to send me back the money! (I could have rolled it to Dallas GA faster!)

I have had as lttle as 2 items for sale and as many as 70+ at any one time on ebay. (I hate their fees, but they are really the only game in town.)

    • Per Bill Barnwell  Broncos part ways with a CB on the roster bubble Broncos get: 2026 seventh-round pick Panthers get: CB Damarri Mathis The Broncos have a rare problem among NFL teams: too many cornerbacks. ESPN's Jeff Legwold projects they could move on from Mathis, who was very good as a rookie in 2022 before losing his starting job after the defense's slow start in 2023. He played just 27 defensive snaps after Week 6 that season and 80 more across 10 games in 2024. With the Broncos using their 2025 first-round pick on cornerback Jahdae Barron, they could justify moving on from Mathis, who might not be active on game days even if he sticks around. Mathis' best season came with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver, and he hasn't been able to reach those same heights since Evero left for Carolina. The Panthers are set with Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson and nickel corner Chau Smith-Wade as their three starting corners, but Mathis could push the 28-year-old Jackson and serve as Carolina's primary reserve on the outside. Mathis is owed $3.4 million in 2025, so Denver might essentially buy a draft pick by eating some of that cash, similar to what the Commanders did when they sent running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers.
    • They can get fuged for a 6th and 7th. Doesn't make sense for us for anything less than a 4th and them paying a majority of his salary.
