Can you give me tips for race?

Recommended Posts

My brother took me to LMS a few years ago and I have not missed many since then. I would advise that when they are getting ready to start the race get as close to the track as possible for the first time by. I was only 4 or five feet away, half way down the back straight for my first start. It was quite an experience. You will be absolutly amazed by how fast the cars are passing.

i've only been once, but sat very low in a turn. this is the same for all restarts so if you miss one just be there for another. i enjoyed it every time though. i even recorded the sound on my phone and used it as a ringtone for a little while.

I didn't see sunscreen or hats and sunglasses mentioned. Don't go without them. I know you're going with girl scouts, but you should still IMO get a race pool together. Instead of a cash pool offer a prize or something. It will get the girls more interested in the race if they have a some drivers to pull for. Find Kyle Busch's car and make sure your whole crowd stands up and gives him the middle finger at LEAST every other time he comes by you. Cheer wildly if he wrecks. Throw stuff on the track if he wins.

Hahahaha - they had girl scout night at at 3 Checkers games and I don't know about the other girls, but my daughter learned all of the You Suck and They Still Suck sayings.

For Christmas one year, I gave my brother a gift certificate to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience. I went to watch while he did it and decided to do the ride along. I was terrified and know they weren't even going nearly as fast as they go during a regular race.

Is that was the Saturday race is? I was thinking it might not be too hard, but then wondered about all the people who might be coming and staying for the weekend. I don't even know if we'll make it all the way to the end of the race yet. It starts about the same time that my daughter usually goes to bed.

I haven't seen a long range forecast for next weekend. I know rain is called for this weekend, but hoped we wouldn't have rain for next. Goes to look up weather.

I forgot which race you were going to. I was thinking it was this weekend.

yeah, and check out the lowesmotorspeedway.com website. it will give you lots of tips and rules. Your ticket should tell you what entrance to use. My cooler always has earplugs, drinks, ice, and food in it. Since you're in general admission get there early to get a good seat. The good seats are higher up. If you get there late you'll only get the seats down low. Get there early and soak it all in. The driver introductions, pre race show, etc. You won't know the drivers much, but a handfull of NASCAR drivers will be in the race that you will recognize. Learn how the tower works that lists the driver's order during the race and explain it to all around. It's all you have to figure out who's leading and the top 10. It will let you understand why people pit and why some don't at the end of the race. Take some little binoculars if you have them and watch pits.

Ask the people around you if you have questions.

Can you use a different entrance if you choose to (other than the one on your ticket)?

We just got home - my daughter didn't make it to the end of the race. Esp since we were there for a long, long, long time before the race began. I'm watching the rest on TV and they said the race start was delayed an hour. BS - It didn't start until 9:15 and it was supposed to start at 7:30. My daughter's bedtime is 8:00 so she did pretty good to make it as long as she did.

It was very cool watching her watch the race - she was very into it at first - decided she liked the #40 car - have no idea who was driving it. When that first wreck happened, her reaction was priceless. She was very worried for the driver - esp when she saw the fire.

Oh - and we grabbed seats under the overhang when we got there, so we stayed bone dry. It was a pretty nice area where we were.

How old is your daughter?

She's 9. It's kind of funny because we went with friends whose daughters are 5 and 10 and the 5 year old got scared so they left earlier than we did. My 19 year old son was bored (we'd been there maybe 5 or 6 hours before the race even started) and he went with them.

Another thing she said that was funny - the cars went out on the track behind the pace car for a long time before the race started to dry the track. They did I don't know how many laps, but it went on for 15 minutes at least - much of it single file at the front stretch (the trucks were lined up to force them there). Finally when they got the go ahead, and the crowd was told it would be the last pace lap, I told her to pay attention because it was getting ready to start. She looked at me aghast and said - you mean it hasn't started yet?
