I'll start by saying i'm not advanced on my specs but I can tell if something is completely teh suck. Right now i'm buried with a 148 gb hard drive.

Graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430(ass balls to say the least)

Rest of my specs are...

Processor - Amd Athlon II x2 215 2.70 GHz

Ram - 3.0 GB (2.7) usable

Win-7 64 bit.

Looking to upgrade with something more fit for gaming. Willing to spend 3-600 I don't have to have something awesome. Something with the ability to emulate PCSX2 (ps2 emulation) requires something decent. Other than that I don't really care, I've made due with under 200 gb of space my entire life so 500 gb or less is fine.

Also do not need a monitor. I use a cord that connects my pc to my tv. So this is all just the tower i'm worried about.

how long do you need the machine to last?

unless you're building for the future, i'd go with an i5. if you want to spend a little extra for "future proofing" then go with an i7.

top of the line amd 8 cores are relatively inexpensive but benchmarks show they're only as good as an i5

how tech savy are you? can you swap out a psu?

my suggestion is an i7 with an ati video card. go with newegg refurb if you're not comfortable doing your own hardware.

there's a dirt cheap gaming rig that's decent. personally i'd swap the psu out of that one for a corsair 500w

something like that

I personally am not tech savvy to the point where I can go in and tell what my computer needs done to it in the tower. My tech savvy is limited to what I can do while on my computer which is a lot. Which is why I didnt need something super expensive to make up for my lack of knowledge. However, I have a friend that is an IT at the college here in town that can do things like that. Preferably a 5 year lifespan at least is what i'm looking for. Like I said i'm into gaming but I don't care if my specs rape other peoples im perfectly content with running games at average settings.

if you wanna take a chance on an open box model and have your friend put the new psu in it, then bookmark this page. they seem to add new open box deals every day at 8-9pm est

as far as power supplies go, i only know corsair and antec for quality. maybe someone else can recommend some good alternate brands.

you just missed this one for 681$

i almost bought that one instead of the one i ended up with, but the 550 ti is slightly better than the 7770

That's what the fug i'm talking about right there. +rep and you can sleep with my sister.

lol don't buy that yet. its amd. not the greatest processor. i was just using that as an example. still needs a new psu.

the good thing is, you've waited this long and dealt with your current rig, you have the luxury to wait for a really good deal.

that really wouldn't be worth it since the processor is generally the most expensive component. not always though.

save up about 800$ and get an i7 processor with a 7770 video card with a good powersupply

or cut corners and get an i5, which should still be viable for gaming for the next 4-5 years

either way, i'd stay away from AMD personally unless you need a space heater

i see iminicus lurking. wish he'd chime in.

currently no games use the hyperthreading that i7 uses other than battlefield 3. but when the next gen consoles come out, games will more than likely make use of hyperthreading soon after.

which is why i recommend the i7. for next gen games. i5 is a damn good processor though.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
