Report: Panthers great Luke Kuechly being eyed for big TV job

Recommended Posts

Quote

According to The Athletic, CBS has eyed Kuechly for a spot on their in-season pre-game show, "The NFL Today." Per senior writer Andrew Marchand, the network has shown interest in the franchise great and Pro Football Hall of Famer—who has worked the last few years as a radio analyst for the Panthers.

The seat on the weekly program—which is positioned alongside host James Brown and analysts Nate Burelson and Bill Cowher—was left vacant by the departure of former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. Ryan was hired as the Falcons' president of football in January.

Well he is a flat out great analyst so I get why. If you listen to radio he sees things so fast, best we have ever had in that regard.
But fug that they can’t have him. I want to keep him in the family here.  Tepper you have the money.

I'd wish he'd stop fooling around and become a coach.  He would be a great DC one of these days.

Agreed that would be amazing.

I just think Luke has really enjoyed his time away from the grind of it all for once in his life and doesn't want to rush back.

Luke for the short time he was here is easily the best Linebacker this franchise has ever had and thats saying something in this organization history.

Always glad to see him doing great outside of football because I know it wasn't easy for him to give it up the way he HAD to.

Giving serious consideration going to see his HOF induction this year.

Maybe one day after he gets away from it.  i could see him in the film room before each week doing what he did best. Then bring it to the defense giving them his take on what the offense will be doing.

Well outside of Mills he is the only other LB that is in the HOF. We've been fortunate to have great linebackers in our history.  Lathom and Green (Salt and Pepper) was another overlooked tandem we had in the late 90s.

I would be very envious if you did.  I work overseas and just can't plan a trip this year.  Don't miss it, it would be a great weekend for sure.  My friend lives only an hour or so from Canton.  I've been to the HOF a couple of times.  It's an awesome place.  I'm a huge Unitas Fan and was able to see some of his memorability.

Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.

Anything is possible, but neither guy was as special as Luke whose superpower was diagnosing plays pre-snap. He was the best to ever do that. I'll argue with anyone who tries to tell me otherwise. But if Morgan, whose reputation for hard hits and high production,  and particularly Beason, who was markedly more productive than Morgan than Morgan, hadn't caught prolific cases of the injury bug, they would've certainly been in legitimate Hall of Fame discussions. With the injuries, they're in "the best to never make it" discussions.  Luke's injuries did not knock his career of kilter. Luke was simply more consistent during his playing career than both Beason and Morgan, and, like I said, he had that uber-ability to diagnose plays which transcended even many if not most or all of his fellow Hall of Fame brethren at the position (i.e., he was on another level).

Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season.

Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it.

And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.

I don't love this role for him if I'm being totally honest

The pregame show is much more flash than substance and doesn't seem like the right fit for what Luke would bring to the table, and that's his vision of the game.

I'd like to see him do something where it more involves him breaking down film and explaining what he's seeing out there, as he sees the game in a way very few ever have.
