Best NBA Season in CLT

Recommended Posts

Probably as soon as people stop romanticizing the Hornets.

Best season for pro sports? 2003.

Best Hornets season? Was it the 94 season when they finished 2nd but got knocked out of the 1st round by the Bulls?

Or was it the 96 season when they finished with 54 wins and got swept out of the playoffs in the first round by the Bulls?

They never made it past the conference semifinals, got chased out of town by fans, and the owner was a rapist/functioning sociopath that swapped players like a kid with baseball cards.

Bringing up Bobby Phils is dirty pool. I hope none of the Bobcats players ever end up dying from a wreck while racing a teammate on a public road. I wish people would stop tarnishing Bobby by bringing him up with the Hornets.

The most enjoyable years were when they were a sub-.500 team with no stars and no glitter. I really lost my taste for the Hornets after they traded Zo, Anthony Mason, Eddie Jones, Glen Rice...everything that made the team special.

Shinn wouldn't sell the team, so the team had to go.

So, the best season in Charlotte NBA history is either the first, when we managed to beat the Bulls in the regular season, or any of the handful of times we got bounced from the conference semifinals unceremoniously.

My favorite moment in Charlotte Hornets history is Zo hitting the buzzer beater to beat Boston for our first ever playoff series then. We had LJ healthy, Bogues slicing, Zo, Dell Curry...Nothing in Charlotte's sports will ever top that moment until the Panthers win a Superbowl or the Bobcats win an NBA title.

Even the Panthers beating Philadelphia in the NFCCG to advance to the superbowl didn't hold the magic of the Hornets first playoff series. Not for me, anyway.

Let it go man, and enjoy what you got. Its like being married but you can't stop thinking about the girl that got away to the point to where its ruining your current relationship.

Nothing will ever replace the Hornets, but I'm glad they're gone. My biggest worry is if we do manage to get some superstars on the Bobcats, they go swapping them around and destroying the team.

Mine was the year Mason shut down Jordan to take game one. I swore we had figured Jordan out and we were going to end his run. We lost the next 4.

That was the series Jordan hacked Hershey Hawkins on the crook of the elbow on the final play of the final game in the series, and there was no call. Which really hurt my opinion of Jordan at the time. It was the first time I remember seeing a blatant no-call for superstar status, and it really pissed me off.

It was speculated that the NBA forced the Hornets to lose that series because they couldn't have a team under relocation going to the conference finals.

That wouldn't surprise me. There was hardly anyone at those games. It was like going to a Sting game.

    • Yeah I'm still not sure about Canales' play calling but I'll give him another season. Still can't quite figure out why you think Young won't work out. His numbers with Theilen are as good as any QB Theien's ever had - including the three games he has started with Rogers this year. Cokers' numbers are as good as Theilens and he is an UDFA and TMac is in the run for ORTY with Young as his QB. Young's throwing more accurately now (from 21.5% in 23 to 16.5% this year) and he has shown he can make the throws in clutch moments. If you take into account he was saddled with XL, Chark, Mingo and Johnson for receivers at one point, had a coaching staff his first year that didn't want him and a current coach who is suspect at play calling, I'm not sure he has been as bad as people here say. I know he has had terrible moments/games but most qb's still on their rookie contract will.  Anyway, had to give my weekly BY plug. Guess I thought this was the perfect time lol.
    • He missed a lot of time. Was slow getting back up to speed. And we have an offense that is not exactly WR friendly so his targets were low.  How many targets does anyone get when you have 120 yards passing, 54 yards passing, 160 yards, most of the time? It probably took the time it needed to take.
    • The 5th year option jus gives them a little more time to make their decision and figure out the position going forward.  The idea that it means hes def gonna get a extension is asinine.
