Draft Rounds 1 and 2

I feel like we are really close to becoming a contending team. With our current cap situation (thanks Hurney), any real improvements have to come through the draft barring our new gm performing a cap miracle. We need to nail our picks in the first two rounds because ultimately that's where I feel we can get immediate contributors.

In short, our holes are RT, DT, S. WR is not necessarily a pressing need but an upgrade in that position can greatly improve our offense and set us up for Steve Smith's replacement.

Round 1

Ideal - Taylor Lewan/Jake Matthews

With the first pick, I think we should go OL - specifically tackle. Depending on who is available we can pick us either Matthews or Lewan, who both seem like they would be able to shore up our offensive line and man either tackle situation depending on what happens with Gross.

Others - Chance Warmack, Eric Fisher

Eric Fisher may be more polished than Lewan but I feel that Lewan is the more physically gifted player and has a higher ceiling. Chance Warmach is possibly the safest pick we can make. He is ready to contribute from day one and should be a bruiser to support our run game.

Round 2

Ideal - Cordarrelle Patterson

I really like his explosiveness and playmaking ability. A little raw but I feel like we can get a real steal in the future if he becomes more polished. The biggest problem with this pick is that his stock seems like it is rising and might rise some more with what should be a great combine. In that case, Panthers can still go WR with Justin Hunter. Despite the injury, I still think his size and athleticism makes him a viable jump ball threat that the team currently lacks.

Others - Shariff Floyd/Jesse Williams - DT is a need which needs to addressed and both of these guys have the size to really anchor our run D in the future.

Note - Although Safety is possibly our greatest need, I feel like none of the ones available in our current draft positions are worth it. We can address it either later in the draft or in free agency.

I like it, we need to get the best OL player with the first pick and with the help to the line our offence should get much better if they stay healthy. I think that the tackles are the biggest need, Bell is ok but he is not really starting material but he does give it his all and he will probably fill in where needed. if we do select Warmack we should have a great interior line for years to come. From what I have seen Patterson is a mid first rounder but if he is available i would not against getting him to develop into the #1 guy.
