Morgan Retires Again

The Williams/Jax experiment was a mess, mostly because of Del Rio's tension with Williams. Del Rio is a strong willed guy who wants to have a big hand in the defense but Williams is the same kind of guy with his own ideas and philosophy. He'll fit in New Orleans because Payton has nothing to do with the defense, and it will just be Williams running things.

Spicer has been in a 4-3 scheme since around 2000, I would think he's adapted by now. No matter his size that's the scheme he is used to.

You're comments about Greer were-''the only thing he'll bring is leadership'', ''Don't count on anything from Vaughn & Arnoux''. you might as well have saved the time an said they sucked.

Come back when you can be somewhat objective.

I have a hard time believing that's the only reason for the decline in basic aspects of Jacksonville's defense.

You're missing the point again. He's better suited for a 3-4 regardless of what he's been playing in for the past 8 years. When your team needs a pass rush a guy who gets about 4-5 sacks a year isn't going to fix things. He's a solid player but he'd fit better as a DT on your team than a DE.

My comment was towards Sharper, not Greer. As far as Vaughn and Arnoux are concerned, they will take some time to contribute at the NFL level, if ever. I never said they sucked just that expecting 4th round rookies to do much considering your team's history with defensive draft picks is a bit premature.

fiz nailed it to why the Jax defense struggled last year, they're worse off than the Saints right now.

Again, we're not expecting 14 sacks out of Spicer. 4-5 sacks would be wonderful when paired with Smith, Grant, and McCray's numbers. Not to mention all of the LBs who will be blitzing a lot. Ellis will get more sacks than he had last year as well. I'm not concerned with the D-line. With Williams' philosophy and scheme, pass rush won't be a problem this year. Gibbs only blitzed like 1-3 times a game. He was awful.

Our best O-lineman came from the 5th round last year, Carl Nicks. Who says a late round pick can't contribute? The Saints have been very good lately at finding late round steals.

Sharper brings ball instincts to the defense, along with Jenkins. Vaughn is already a fav. of Williams because of his hard hitting style. Arnoux is out for the season but he may start next year depending on what we do with Shanle.

This defense is a lot more talented than the 2006 version which was good enough for the NFC title game. Not to mention there is almost no comparison between the two coordinators.

Pierre Thomas> '06 Deuce

Garrett Hartley>John Carney or Grammatica

Spicer averages that much per season when in a starting capacity. He'll more than likely be a backup so I'm fairly sure he won't reach even those numbers. Also the lack of blitzing isn't the big issue, sacks generally don't come off of blitzes necessarily, they come more often from good coverage. What blitzes do is force the opposing QB to get rid of the ball sooner which increases the chance for an interception.

I was unaware that Carl Nicks was a defensive player.

Sharper slowed down a lot last year in Minnesota, and while the leadership will help you guys still need help from your defensive backs.

    • well, he all but indicated that in his press conference   He wanted his passing offense to ‘come alive’  however, there  where so many mistakes on offense besides Bryce, per film review done by some podcasters I respect in the All 22   Young, missing reads, throwing off his back foot continuously, late with throws    We are in year 3….enough receivers and Young thinking it’s one route and it was another  Tet dropping critical passes…I’ll tell ya, I’m over this one.  Top 10 pick, pretend you are Malik neighbors or Jefferson and catch the damned ball …and the ever so popular Legette, ballerina that he is, stepping out of bounds,,again they need a veteran receiver out there and they don’t have it…I get the concept of wanting young and the receivers to grow together but young has to grow first, and it is ending year 3   One thing about Thielen, he was always where he was supposed to be, he seldom dropped passes and he had no problem keeping his feet in bounds  What these guys do in practice together, no idea
    • If you trot Brycie out there again next year or pick up his option there will be some serious dissention among the troops. Who is going to put forth effort while getting their bodies busted up only to know we really don't have a chance at winning. They know he is terrible. I only  saw 2 wins on the schedule at the beginning of the year and our record is a fluke. I'm as surprised as anybody. Trying to win with Brycie is like trying to win the Daytona 500 in a Ford Escort.
    • Honestly, with McVay as HC and Matt having the year of his life, Williams doesn’t matter I've watched the rams a lot this year and the line gives ,Matt time, puca and davante are constantly open and if they aren’t the TEa are. McVay  plus a healthy stafford equals Super Bowl if that defense can hold up
