Finally the team is speaking out and speaking up about its QB.  With a rapist, (Big Ben), Murderer (Ray Lewis), Drug Abuser (entire Seattle Defense), Mom beater (Dez Bryant) and numerous alcoholics all gettin unflappable team support what did Cam do to deserve that silence.  IMO it was starting to make the team look soft.  If they don't like him cut him butthat is ridiculous because obviously he is potentially the best QB the organization has ever had so they should start treating him like that.

What do you think about the top 100 spot on Cam Newton? It was edited in a way that was not good for the player or the organization. – Fred in Asheville, N.C.

The NFL Network series commonly includes dissenting opinions about a given player's position among the "Top 100 Players of 2013," and I have no problem with that. I was, however, disappointed by the overall tone of the Newton piece, especially with how it ended.

If you haven't seen it, watch it here before reading on.

As a journalist for two decades now, I certainly understand the decision to make cornerback Champ Bailey's comments a part of the piece. For one, Newton's No. 46 ranking is based on balloting of the players, so you want their perspective. And in the producer's position, would you leave this on the cutting room floor?

"He's definitely not in my top 10 quarterbacks," said Bailey, whose Broncos beat Carolina 36-14 in Week 10 last season. "I remember playing him. He didn't impress me."

While I understand that being included, I don't understand how a show designed to celebrate the top 100 players in the NFL handles the Newton vignette from there. It simply trails off with footage of Newton's unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during a Week 16 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Simply put, it leaves a bad taste in the viewer's mouth.

Compare that to the piece on Eli Manning at No. 43. The narrator pointed out with both Manning and Newton that they had slipped a few spots in the rankings from last year, but while Newton's piece featured Bailey and his penalty from there, Manning's went like this.

"Eli Manning dropped 12 spots to No. 43 on the players' list despite establishing himself as one of the league's most clutch quarterbacks," the narrator said. "To paraphrase the immortal words of Rodney Dangerfield, ‘Eli gets no respect.' Perhaps a third Super Bowl MVP is needed."

Actually, the narrator went out of his way to impart all due respect. Established himself as clutch? What, with some late heroics in a playoff-less season following a Super Bowl season? And wasn't he already established as clutch with the two titles and all?

Newton does have a long ways to go, and he'll be the first to admit that. Still, he's thrown for more yards in his first two seasons than any quarterback in NFL history. Perhaps that would have been worth mentioning.

Meh, The organization supports Cam, his team mates support Cam, and we the fans support Cam. fug everyone else.

 

Yeah but they gotta say it.  It means more and shows solidarity.  If Cam is not the leader, how does it make the actual leaders on the team look that they would not stand up for one of their own.

I don't need to see one of the guys with a "C" on their jersey lashing out at the media to prove their loyalty. Prove it in the locker room and on the field.

If your little brother stepped on his d*** and was constantly being ribbed about it publicly, how much would it take to say enough is enough.  Even if he was messing up he is still FAM, right?

 

edit:not implying Cam did or did not do anything wrong.

The only point Im trying to make is that when someone is on the inside, part of the brotherhood, on the team,  in the click, or whatever you want to call it, usually those people stick up for each other.  The steelers dont let people talk about Big Ben or speak ill of him.  Neither do the Ravens of ray lewis, the cowboys of dez, or the seahawks of each other.  Teammates, organizations stand up for their own. And are vocal in their praise when someone is offended. The Panthers have been quiet before now.

Seriously dude? We're gonna start smearing other players now?

 

Big Ben was a civil lawsuit (hint: if it was legitimate, there would be criminal charges), Ray Lewis wasn't a murderer (accomplice at best), the Seattle defense isn't taking anything that other players aren't taking and the charges were dismissed in Bryant's case; Additionally, any other players getting DUIs get dropped from their team like hot potatoes.

 

Why would we cut Cam? That makes absolutely zero sense. He has the full backing of the team (as mentioned in Rivera's recent interview) and with the way people around here slob on his nuts I'd definitely say he has the full support of the fans as well. (Except for that one racist guy out in Goldsboro who can't stand a black quarterback in the 21st century)

Ain't nothin but feul to the fire, locker room hype. Bailey gonna have to cover Smitty, LaFell, Olsen and mufuggin AE to remember how unimpressive Cam is. Fortunately for Champ, he won't have to see Carolina again until...... February...

      To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.

      To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…
