NHL Draft: 5th Round (126th Overall): Carolina Selects Brent Pederson

Recommended Posts

With the 126th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the Carolina Hurricanes select forward Brett Pedersen from the Kitchner Rangers. Pederson is listed as the 125th prospect in North America.

Pedersen is a left shooting winger from Kitchner, Ontario is listed at 6'2/205 lbs and plays for one of the Hurricanes favorite organizaitons; the Kitchner Rangers. Kitchner has recently produced fellow Hurricanes: Jeff Skinner and Ryan Murphy. Pedersen was acquired by Kitchner in the first round of the 2011 OHL Draft.

In two years with Kitchner, Pedersen has recorded 23 goals, 22 assists, 45 points, 66 pim's, and a plus- rating of 0 in 156 games.

Pedersen won a bronze medal with Team Ontario at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Pedersen uses his size and strength very well and also has pretty good puck skills to go with a decent shot. However, he is just an average skater.

Pedersen projects to be a fourth line bruiser at best (better version of Kevin Westgarth) that is willing to fight, but also has the skills to put the puck in the back of the net or set up teammates.
