Horncats interested in Al Jefferson

Why did everyone get so down so quickly here, lmao. Wow.... The meeting lasted two days and Charlotte is the only option he has right now. lol

Second it's going to take a bit more then that to get Pekovic away from Minny.

Yeah, I was just throwing a number out there higher than his QO. Probably more like 50 mil. That being said, I'm not being pessimistic or down about anything, just realistic... I'm about 99% sure Howard will not sign with the Mavs, as he has already asked the Rockets to get Josh Smith, which the Mavs can't do. What is more appealing? Playing for the Lakers, Warriors, hometown Hawks, or the Rockets (possibly with a childhood friend in Smith, as well as Harden), OR playing for the Mavs with over-the-hill Dirk and Marion? Dallas is the last option on my list if I'm D12 no matter how awesome of an owner Cuban is.

And that's just Dallas, who we've heard would be interested in Al if Dwight signs elsewhere. So none of those other teams, who are all further along than we are at this point, would want to make Al an offer either? I mean, credit to him for coming here FIRST for a visit, but, realistically, if the money is relatively the same, he's going elsewhere.

There's a chance with the pieces in place that they will be worse then the Bobcats this season, all they have is Dirk and an over the hill Carter an Marion...nothing after that at all and no money to fix the issues at PG and SG and depth if they sign a big name FA like Jefferson.

Jefferson is particularly holding out for the Mavericks according to reports, His two options that he is considering are the Bobcats and Mavericks, no one else.

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out because I'm not going to read all 25 pages of this thread right now, but Al Jefferson is ranked #52 in PER (Player Efficiency Rating) in the NBA.... ALL TIME.  I knew he was an underrated, efficient player but PER has been one of the most used advanced statistics that NBA teams have adopted in recent years to really determine a players value to the team when it doesn't necessarily show up in the box score.

$15 Million a season is a lot to give a player and more than I want the Hornets to spend right now, but you can't blame him for expecting that much.

I think Jefferson is going to Dallas. D12 is gonna be a Rocket. Dirk is going to take a pay cut to help bring in another guy like Al. Knowing Cuban, it's going to happen.

I have nothing to base this on, but honestly, I get the feeling that D12 stays a Laker. Still Big Al becomes a Mav. I'm on board with Pek.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
