What is going to give Peppers the motivation to try?

Yeah, it's totally acceptable if one of our best players decides not to put any effort in for an entire season. It's cool, we'll just get over it. :rolleyes:

Something besides just a lack of effort was up that season. The Panthers went on to offer him a huge contract before the 2008 season. The coaches and front office, who know much more than we do, wouldn't have made him that offer if they thought he had purposely given no effort the season before.

Some of the best pass rushers in the league have had off years (see Dwight Freeny's 5.5 sack season). Michael Strahan had some bad seasons too (as far as sacks). The fact is, we had a bad team in 2007. Player's stats sometimes suffer on bad teams.

      Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is putting the league on notice early into his NFL career, and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is well aware.  “I think he’s a stud,” Shanahan told reporters Thursday. “He’s going to be one of the best receivers in this league sooner than later. He’s got all the skill sets to do it, and I think he’s just getting started.”  Through 11 games played, McMillan has racked up 748 receiving yards on 54 receptions. He ranks sixth in the NFL in receiving yards and leads all rookies in the category.  Carolina selected McMillan as the No. 8 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. San Francisco had the 11th overall pick.  Did the receiver out of Arizona catch Shanahan’s eye in draft preparation?  “Yeah, big time,” Shanahan said.  Shanahan also said that he thought the receiver would be taken well ahead of the 49ers’ draft position, but the team did their due diligence when scouting the best overall draft picks in the 2025 class.       In basically every win but Atlanta he's had 2-3 plays that were a big deal but he also was part of why we needed those 2-3 plays instead of just cruising.
