Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal and goaltender Cam Ward are ahead of schedule as each recovers from a knee injury, according to coach Kirk Muller.
 
Muller told Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer that Staal, who was injured May 16 while playing for Canada in the 2013 World Championship, is training with his brothers in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
 
The coach said Ward, who was injured in an NHL game March 3, is "raring to go."
