Charlotte Shopping Ben Gordon, Trying To Win Now (Other News)

Scoring.  That's what we need.

All we really have to offer is BG's 13 Mil expiring and fodder.  What are we going to get for that?

JR's value is down because the Knicks are a trainwreck and he's an idiot.  BUT, he can play ball and he can score with anybody.

It's primetime to strike a deal.

Who's in Charlotte wants and "IDIOT"?????

NOBODY!!!!!

MJ already has a reputation of making bad moves through out his time in Charlotte. Imagine MJ making this move for Smith. He'd be right back on top in the media.

Well, like I said, what other options are there for what we have to offer.  Smith is a huge upgrade in talent, even if he is an idiot.

Before this shoelace crap, over the summer when he was brought up, it was almost unanimous that everyone here wanted him, and we apparently did show interest but he re-signed with the Knicks.

I think the crap he's doing now is on purpose so he can force his way out of New York without asking for it.

He could give us the scoring we need to possibly push us up into a 4th seed if all plays out well.  I mean, they've basically come out and said they're playing for a playoff spot.  He's on a short-term deal, he can score, we're not gonna get much better, and he'd help us RIGHT NOW.

Not true. If I'm correct, only CP8789 wanted Smith in town.

Hendo has been playing well. Theres no need to be desperate for Smith.

I'm absolutely sure there were more "yeas" than "nays" on Smith, Chuck.

It's not being desperate.  Like I said, I don't see how we could get a more talented player than Smith unless we threw in a bunch of other things that most people here would be unhappy about.  Maybe Afflalo?  But, he's not a natural scorer.  He's like what everyone hopes Hendo would be.

But, I just don't see doing much better than Smith for what we need.  IMO, I appreciate what Hendo has done, but he's part of the problem here.

Nope. Im pretty sure there were more nays than yays.

If MJ/Cho decides to go after Smith, this would proves just how dumb who's controlling this team.

LOL, chuck...  okay.  What better options are out there, that have already been mentioned or rumored to be on the block?

None. Just go with who we already have.

They've said with this BG rumor and all the other moves that they're committed to winning and getting in the playoffs this season.

If this team makes it, we are getting swept as an 8th seed.

A move has to be made.

also, went back and found the second or third JR Smith thread from the offseason after it actually was reported that we were pursuing him...  through the first page, there was only about one reply that leaned towards not getting him.  Most all of them questioned what we would be like defensively, but stated that we would be great offensively...  Almost all favorable and affirmative responses to getting him, and among them was this reply:

At 10 mil, I easily take JR over Hendo. Only Bobcats fans would think that Hendo is worth that money. I just don't know what direction this team is leaning toward with the possible signing of Big Al and now courting JR. You can't tell me that with those two additions we're not going to be a Playoffs team this upcoming season. From thinking that we could have "3" 1st rounders next year to potentially having "none" (Chicago, Top10 protected: TNT).

not at 10 mil tho.

and I might've said some things I really didnt mean.

And, to end this discussion, just quit it already. NO to J.R.

The only J.R. I want in Charlotte is already in Charlotte: Jerry Richardson!

We'll have to agree to disagree then chuck.

I think most people just don't want to fully invest in the idea of purposely trying to win this year.

I am still on that boat.

This is the last year I wanted to tank.

I felt like this draft was apart of the plan all along.

Seemes like we lost our patience.

    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
