Former Olympian Brian Rafalski Signs With Karmanos's Florida Everblades

On Thursday the Florida Everblades of the ECHL announced that they have signed the 40-year-old Rafalski, who hasn't played in the NHL since 2010-11 with the Red Wings when a knee issue led him to retire at the age of 37.

The Everblades who are Carolina's (and Tampa's) ECHL team are owned partially by the Karmanos's...

In my opinion, this has Karmanos written all over it. The Canes have already resurrected the careers of Manny Malhotra and Radek Dvorak; and at least tried to resurrect the career of Rick DiPietro... It seems as if they are going to try to do the same thing with Brian Rafalski.

Now before someone says that Tampa could have interest in Rafalski, Tampa officials have already shot down the idea saying that they have no interest in bringing in Rafalski.

It will be interesting to see how this story plays out.

Fun Fact: In Rafalski's 11 year NHL career, he never had a negative +/- rating.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
