  1. Draft or Hornets?

I promised myself I'd watch the Hornets. I'll record the draft and keep up with the picks during commercials and after the game.
  2. Presser at 3pm

Well he expected it to be called sooner than the end of the round, so he was probably thinking 'it's about time'. The Lions promised to take him at 16. He should be glad they didn't. As a small town guy he's a better fit in Charlotte and closer to home as well.
  3. " Butler, however, figures to start in 2017 once Star Lotulelei moves on in free agency." Not sure I buy Butler as a plug in for Star. Butler, at present anyway, is more of a KK type DT.
  4. Carolina Panthers select DT Vernon Butler

As in the business of playing football.
  5. Another thread about the football man we just drafted

Apples and oranges. They're different types of DT's and complement each other. Back to Butler. He's at the top of Gil Brandt's list of most underrated defensive prospects. "... an inside player who plays well vs. the run. He's tall, athletic and strong (26 bench lifts). His best position is nose tackle. He was a standout at the Reese's Senior Bowl, and could be one at the next level. "
  6. Ecu Dark Horse 2-3 rd picks

Those moves sound reasonable if drafting for needs, but you forget that Gman doesn't do that. I just hope a DT isn't at the top of the BPA list when our remaining picks come up.
  7. Probably not but we might trade up to him. It's how we got Funchess.
  8. Some predictions from 2nd round mock drafts. SB Nation Carolina Panthers - Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn After getting defensive tackle Vernon Butler in the first round, the Panthers can add some beef in the second round with Coleman. ----------------- Walter football Carolina Panthers: Su'a Cravens, S/LB, USC image: Per our Pro Day Results page, Tony Pauline reported that the Panthers have scary levels of interest in Su'a Cravens. I initially was confused, given that Carolina drafted a similar-type player last year in Shaq Thompson. However, Thompson is more linebacker, while Cravens is more of a safety, so it would make sense for the team to have two interchangeable linebacker-safety hybrids. ---------------- USA Today 62. Carolina Panthers – Devontae Booker, RB, Utah: Eventually, he could be a nice three-down back for the NFC champs. But initially, he’d provide a nice alternative to Pro Bowl Jonathan Stewart, who’s 29 and always seems to be nicked up. ------------------ Drafttek Michael Thomas WR OSU ------------------ Bleacher Report Jerald Hawkins OT LSU I think Cravens or Thomas would require moving up. The others may be available at 62.
  9. Most draft 'experts' are gonna insist on grading for need, rather than value, so we'll just keep losing the draft and winning games.
  10. We didn't need a DT when Gman grabbed KK in the 2nd round either. And didn't need a LB when Luke was the 1st rounder. Funny how our 'immediately after' draft grades are meh, but down the road they pay off big time, and the talking heads just look stupid.
  11. Carolina Panthers select DT Vernon Butler

I see all the 'we don't need no DT' folks are out in force, just like when KK got picked in the 2nd after Star. When are you people gonna start believing what DG says? BPA all the way. If you can't stand that drafting philosophy, go be a fan of a team that drafts for need.
  12. Butler selection Presser, 7 teams tried to trade

As the Butler pick showed (once again), it's BPA all the way, and if a DE is at the top of the list in the remaining rounds, you can count on that DE becoming a Panther. "Plays with energy and shows the same intensity in the fourth quarter as the opening drive. Consistent competitor with a strong football appetite." And you know intensity and consistency played into the high grade we awarded to Butler. This kid was a 2 star recruit out of high school so he's used to proving people wrong about his talent.

I think Lynch, unless he's already gone. There are some QB hungry teams this year.
  14. Voth predicts Hunter Henry

From what I've read his blocking needs quite a bit of work, but as a pass catcher he should make an immediate impact. Most mocks have him as a 2nd rounder, but if Gman wants him I suspect he'll have to grab him in the 1st or trade up in the 2nd.
  15. At least this way you can avoid the dog food commercial.
