(Theory) Coach Cowher to be next Panthers head coach

53 posts in this topic

I am not a huge Cowher supporter, but it sure does seem like the door is opening for him. JR, not only fires his head coach, but his entire coaching staff. That in itself, feels like JR already has a big name head coach picked out, that will bring in his entire coaching staff with him. Cowher has said previously that he wants to stay in NC to be close to his family, and would coach again if the right job came along... well that is insinuating that he would like to coach the Carolina Panthers, he has waited 4 years for this job to open up. The job is his if he wants it.. and trust me, he wants it.

I believe he already has a deal struck with JR, and it will happen very very quickly (this week). I don't think we will waste Jim Harbaugh's time.. as I believe JR has made up his mind, and will be appeasing the RR, to get the Ron Rivera interview out of the way ASAP. The press conference tomorrow very well could be the announcement I am talking about.

Oh, and the 'short list' for Cowher, never existed. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/p...urn=nfl-301058

As long as he's down with drafting Luck at #1 I wouldn't mind the Chin in Charlotte.....

The alternative theory is they have a deal set up with Harbaugh already, and they set the press conference for the day after his Bowl game.. which would make sense. However, I don't think they would have fired the ENTIRE coaching staff for Harbaugh. I could be wrong though.

It seems that we will be getting a high profile head coach.. not a lesser known coordinator that ESPN seems to imply. I believe JR will be going BIG. JR will pump life into this downtrodden franchise. Cowher and Luck would achieve this goal. Again, I would rather have an Offensive minded HC like Harbaugh, but the writing seems to be on the wall.

You forgot to quote yourself. I think I remember you posting this exact thing in the other Cowher thread.

That's where you're wrong I think....

Harbaugh holds all the cards, there's one of him and at least 5 different teams that want him, including Stanford. If JR wanted him bad enough and Harbaugh said I'll come if I can pick my own staff it would be done.....

    • I was very intrigued by him early on. The tape (highlights) look good, and at that size still seemed to have pull away speed. Then I looked into him more, and he has some very bad fumbling issues. If I am remembering right it is like once in every 34 carries on average.  Near the bottom in the entire RB draft class.
    • Honestly I claim no expertise regarding the draft and haven't gone to the trouble of creating a board or ranking players. But I think that guys in the top 50 are often from bigger schools and get more hype than other guys.  Plus there may be guys taken at some positions much sooner or later than previous years. In the past 2 drafts, no tight ends were drafted in the first round. And the last time 4 TEs were picked in the top 3 rounds was a decade ago. This year we could see 2 tight ends taken in the first round alone and another 2 or 3 in the second round.  On the other hand there is often a run of OTs taken in the first and this might be the first draft in a while where no OTs are taken in the top 20. We could get one of the top 10 tackles at 98 or 115 where other years they would be chosen much higher. Is that because they all suck or is it that there are more attractive guys at other positions?  You make a good point about trading up. Is it better to have 2 picks at 40 and 64 instead of one at 24. I think it depends on how we see our current projected starters.  If we think we have several holes to fill and these guys are going to be impact players than don't trade up. If you think that the guy at 64 would be a rotational guy but who we want at 24 is going to be a starter and really impact the team, you trade up. It depends on what we think we need and how the draft pans out.
