Obama gaffes at gifting?

2 posts in this topic

In the first visit by a foreign leader to the White house during the Obama administration. It appears that hes not making the strides to make America look good in the eyes of the international community

Quoted story

and a second story that I didnt quote also from a British source

As he headed back home from Washington, Gordon Brown must have rummaged through his party bag with disappointment.

Because all he got was a set of DVDs. Barack Obama, the leader of the world's richest country, gave the Prime Minister a box set of 25 classic American films - a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks.

Mr Brown is not thought to be a film buff, and his reaction to the box set is unknown. But it didn't really compare to the thoughtful presents he had brought along with him.

The Prime Minister gave Mr Obama an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet.

The unique present delighted Mr Obama because oak from the Gannet's sister ship, HMS Resolute, was carved to make a desk that has sat in the Oval Office in the White House since 1880.

Mr Brown also handed over a framed commission for HMS Resolute and a first edition of the seven-volume biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert.

In addition, Mr Brown and his wife showered gifts on the Obama children giving Sasha and Malia an outfit each from Topshop and six children's books by British authors which are shortly to be published in America.

In return, the Obamas gave the Browns two models of the presidential helicopter, Marine One, to take home to sons Fraser and John.

All this after he offended the British by sending back the bust of Winston Churchill from the oval office.

Im a little surprised at the change we are seeing when dealing with our allies

    • Christian McCaffrey is a special athlete. His ability as a runner and slot receiver make him one of the most dynamic football threats in the league. His contributions to the Stanford offense have been tremendous, and he's had a big workload to boot. However, many of the naysayers talk of McCaffrey not being able to handle an NFL workload. They say his body would not be able to handle the rigors of what the NFL will throw at him.  A look into McCaffrey's workout routine shows he just may be able to handle it. McCaffrey seems to put himself through super workouts to keep himself in shape. I have no doubt McCaffrey will be able to enter the NFL with his body ready and tested to face the rigors of the NFL. What do you think? Will McCaffrey be ready for the rigors of the NFL?
    • I know right? People wasting their breath when Gary Johnson was the superior candidate last election.
    • There's a lot of Wilson supporters from State so I don't want to get them all riled up, but Wilson is OVERRATED. He always has been, his style of play is fundamentally unsustainable because it relies on getting lucky when things completely go to poo. You know what usually happens when things go to poo in the NFL? You get sacked or picked.    Further adding to my dislike for Wilson is the fake persona he has built. He's a shill that stops at nothing to protect his golden boy image. That's just a personal pet peeve of mine. Say what you want about Cam but at least he's himself.
