Panthers can clear $1 million in cap by letting Clausen go

Per Rotoworld.com:

The Panthers can clear over $1 million in salary cap space by waiving Jimmy Clausen next month.

Clausen is due a $923,000 roster bonus on March 27. He spent 2011 as Carolina's third-stringer, inactive on all 16 game days after failing to beat out Derek Anderson for the Panthers' backup job. The Panthers are up against the cap, and need to shed $9.6 million before the new league year (March 13).

I hate to say farewell, but it's sad to see you go.

I honestly don't know why we would keep him anyway unless there's some chance in blue hell somebody would trade for him...

For a 10th round pick and a bucket of Bojangles.

I would trade Clausen for a toilet paper roll, I'm running low and those burritos don't treat me nicely.

They'll probably hang onto him until training camp at least, and try to get a low or conditional pick for him. Low risk high reward for a team with a sudden desperation at the quarterback position.

The XFL no longer exists, and the NFL wouldn't trade with them to begin with.
