I DO take some merit in smaller numbers LIKE the ten yard split. But that doesn't make his average performance in the in field drills any better.

lol you started your post saying it has nothing to do with his speed and then you immediately went and said "...his speed and other things"

besides his bench and 40 time, which are the two least comprehensive drills in the combine, he didn't do terrible

Ok, let me try this another way. I watched a lot of his snaps and a couple of complete games focusing on just his play. I came away underwhelmed, but it was clear the guy had some potential.

Fast forward to the combine. He again underwhelms, at least in the strength and speed drills. The 19 lifts was particularly disappointing.

I just can't find a reason to be really high on this guy. But hey, none of us are professionals so our opinions don't mean much.

Your reading comprehension sucks, that's for sure.

Are there really people like this? You posted an emoticon. A single emoticon. There was nothing to read but you showing you didn't have an informed counter response.

I swear some of you are so eager to throw out the latest Internet diatribe you last heard during one of your 4chan sessions that you don't even think about what you're saying.

he's not the first DL prospect that performed bad on the bench, and there are examples of great pro linemen that had similar bench performances at the combine

it's not a stark indicator of who will succeed at the pro level

You really are dumber than fuging rocks.

Go back and read your original reply to me and see if you can figure it out.

Sadly, you obviously do think about what you're saying... and that's a pretty damn scary thought considering the results of your deep thought.

What is funny is that you make things up to try and prove a point distorting what I said completely. What I said what that I didn't agree that he was a first round talent and that he didn't bring anything to the table that we didn't already have in David Gettis or could find with Streeter who is a fourth rounder or fifth rounder. I also don't think you can compare a skill position like receiver where every team seems to have a big fast receiver with a 350 lb DT who benched 225 lbs-44 times and ran a 4.87 in the combine. That was only 5 reps short of the all-time record. In fact I can't remember anyone that big running that fast, can you???

But this thread isn't about rehashing Hill who we will not be drafting but about a DT who we could be drafting and is in an area of need. Poe is a junior and he isn't from an elite team nor was he on a very good team. So it is true that he hasn't played against elite competition nor has he had tons of experience. That is why the combine was so important for him. Should we draft him automatically based on just these numbers? It depends on whether you are willing to develop him or not. Will he come in and start? No. Could he develop into a starter and be a big time talent?Possibly maybe even likely. But unlike Hill we don't have a talent anything close to what Poe brings to the table. If Kris Jenkins were still here than I wouldn't want Poe just like since we have Gettis I am not interested in Hill.

For the sake of not hijacking the thread with the Hill debate I will just say that if you think that Gettis who is an inch shorter Hill, jumped 5 inches less in the vertical than Hill, and ran a 4.51 officially at the combine, and jumped 7 inches less in the broad than Hill is the same as Hill who ran a 4.36 officially at 6'4 you are crazy. Hill's combine is only comparable to Calvin Johnson's when you take everything into account (I am not saying he is the next Calvin Johnson just comparing combine numbers).

Gettis had 655 yards and 3 TDs his Senior year at Baylor which runs a spread offense and Hill had nearly 1,000 receiving yards with an offense that runs an option.

The two are not even really that close. In combine numbers or production coming out of college.

And I have said I like Poe but I am always wary of guys with those physical skills that didn't dominate in a smaller conference.

How many sacks did he have last year?? One? Honest question, because ESPN is some times shaky with their defensive stats.

I understand that he had no help but when you are that physically imposing and you play against lesser talent in the trenches it seems you should have better production.

Some merit? Who are you exactly??? If you have coached at all or evaluated talent or even played, you wouldn't make these comments.

It is widely acknowledged that 10 yard splits are the defining drill for DTs. Field drills just indicate what we all know which is he is raw. But that is just technique which is easily coached. Speed agility and athleticism you can't teach. Anyone who has even coached midget football knows that.

I've been on this bandwagon for a few weeks now. Poe is the best DT in the draft and it's not even close, IMO. I wouldn't be upset at all if we took him at 9th overall.

You're overreacting to what I'm saying. If you can openly admit that his performance on field today was "meh" and still react as such-you're taking it too personally.

All I said was that his on field skills were average (and in some cases slightly below.) you're the one who grouped it in with his performance as a whole. I have no problem saying some of his timed performances we're good. Just that most of those drills are largely useless.
