Honest question: is he as fast as Thomas Davis (before all the blowouts)? If so then I could get excited about the pick. I remember Rivera salivating over the prospect of getting TD back and all the ways he could use him.

I'm not dead sold that it's the "end of Thomas Davis" but "the end of Thomas Davis as an every down player" seems like a real possibility.

Using Davis as a backup/situational guy is a valid option, assuming he's healthy.

I would have taken Cox and been thrilled he was there.

He could start over Hardy at LDE and move inside to DT on 3n longs.

Much like Justin Tuck.

But I am not a scout, im not a GM, nor am I a Coach.

And its likely they are all smarter than me.

Im just searching for some understanding here.

yeah I really wanted Cox also (no homo)

And if Still, Curry, Jenkins are still on the board?

Could be great picks too.

I agree 100% with Kurb. If the team decides to move on without Davis, only then will I be happy about this pick. Just the thought of him sitting on the bench if Davis comes back and stays healthy pisses me the hell off.

I wouldn't be angry at all if Davis came back healthy enough to start.

That's just not a scenario I find especially likely :(

Interesting...

For some reason I don't think the Panthers valued Cox very highly. I think Coples would have been our second choice in a trade down scenario

Everything teh kurb says makes sense but we're talking Marty Hurney here. Like a race horse with blinders when he sees LB or RB in the 1st he's locked into the finish line, oblivious to everything: around him.

But there is still quality at areas of need in the 2nd round, things may work out.

kukes will be a fine LB, a position we could and should have addressed later. But as they say at BOFA, it is what it is.

Davis coming back and staying healthy pisses you off? Dude, that's terrible. What the hell is that?

Rationale being that it would make the pick a waste because we could have used it on another position.

I don't necessarily agree with that logic, but I understand the point of view.

It seems to me that the FO believes that the DT position is going to get better by default since Edwards is back and McClain and Fua have a year under their belt. There are still some good pass rushers left that we should have the chance to get in the 2nd. If they pick one up and add in Edwards then your entire front 7 (not just the front 4) has gotten exponentially better.

This also addresses the possibility that Davis AND Beason aren't playing as well as they did pre-injuries or even at all.

Yeah I am sure Rivera has zero input on this pick.

Hurneyz just loves thems running backs and linebackers.

BPA.
