IT IS OFFICIAL. The presidents have approved a four-team seeded playoff.

As expected, six bowls will rotate hosting the semifinals. Bill Hancock: "We do not know the rotation yet."

Also as previously reported, 12-year deal.

Sweet. I want to know the exact process. Will they choose the four teams before bowl games start and the Playoff will be after them?

Should be bigger than 4 teams, but whatever.

Definitely but like the OP said....baby steps. Once they see how profitable this thing is, they will rework the contract and make it six teams with top two seeds getting a bye, and then move to 8 etc etc....

this is going to totally kick ass- I only wanted an 8 team playoff, so I'm pretty ecstatic about a 4 team. Now, undoubtedly, an underdog type team (like TCU or Boise St.) will at least have the chance to compete. Very happy, and excited for this.

I wonder how people will feel about the next pre-playoff national champions.

If they're thoroughly dominant throughout the season they will say they were the best. If we end up with a scenario like last year....look out.

but...but...what if a smaller school makes it in the playoff? We certainly can't let a team outside the big conferences win a national championship can we?
