injuries are injuries. Ya play your best guys.So you would rather have Davis possibly get injured as a starter this season or have him be the number 1 back-up in the league at OLB at the league veteran minimum wage?
Will Kuechly start at MLB this sunday?

U do realize that he started at MLB vs Dolphins right? They had Jason Phillips as MLB for broadcast, but it was def Keuchly.
Plus it's his natural position, so not much of a learning curve there.
We were in an actual "4-3" set twice, maybe 3 times in the first half. Those times that we did run a "4-3" set Phillips was the Middle Linebacker.
90% Of the first half we played in a nickel set and Phillips was not on the field for those. So what you were seeing was 2 down linebackers and 3 corners, where Kuechly was in between the third corner(Munnerlyn) and the other linebacker on the field.
We also ran some 3-4 looks where Kuechly slid inside, but technically speaking he was not the Middle linebacker.

I love how you throw out numbers to make your points. Me... never felt comfortable throwing around numbers.
90% or first have plays were nickel sets. Only ran a 4-3 maybe 3 times. I know you are just trying to make a point, but you cannot just make stuff up. It is just not fair, or right. Just busting your chops.
I agree that we used quite a few looks on D last week. 8, 9, and even 10 in the box which I saw twice. I love the versitility we showed.
Maybe all those looks were to protect Phillips? Give him some confidence and not overwhelm him? Or just get him off the field in passing situations?

I agree with you mostly. But I specifically remember him playing MLB on specific plays out of the 4-3.
The longest pass for Miami he was at true MLB, also had a deflection on a 3rd down as MLB, and stuffed a run playing MLB.
I understand that we used different wrinkles, but you're not completely correct.

- This is the position that we need him the most.
- He needs to continue to get the position down.
- Beason will be back soon enough so there's no need confussing Kuechly with two different positions.
- Kuechly will be more productive if he concentrates on one position.
- We need a LB that can cover TE's.

he will start. Where is the ? but he will start...
not only because he is beast but you don't spend a 9th overall on a backup LB

he could step in on the first play as a backup and get hurt.. neither scenario is a definite.. If he needs more time just to be safe then instead of risking anything he ought to be put on the PUP list..
otherwise, there is no half-speed on the field.

First of all i can't believe you suckered me into going back and looking...anyway
At 9:58 in the first quarter:(Kuechly tipped ball) 4-3 set but Phillips was Middle Linebacker
This was the easiest to identify all 3 linebackers and was blatantly obvious that Phillips was in between Kuechly and Anderson. (Focus just on the linebackers and you'll see-Top of your screen Kuechly, middle of your screen Phillips, bottom of your screen Anderson.
At 14:51 in the second quarter:(Kuechly Stuff) 4-3 set but Phillips was Middle Linebacker
Kuechly's biggest run stuff was negated because of Hardy being offsides. Jason Williams was playing close the line at one outside backer spot(top of your screen)Then in between him and Kuechly was Phillips, and at the other outside backer spot was Kuechly. On the bottom of your screen Nakumara was playing close to the line(bottom of your screen). ----I assume you never saw Wiliams on the field and mistakenly took Nakumara as linebacker, creating the illusion the nakumara and Phillips were your outside linebackers with Kuechly in the middle. This is false.
At 14:06 in n the second quarter:(Tannenhill's longest pass play) We were in a nickel set this time. The 2 down linebackers were Anderson and Kuechly. Your 3 corners were Gamble and Norman outside and Munnerlyn blitzing vs covering the TE Fuller who managed their longest completion of the night.....--------This was not Munnerlyns fault, we dropped Kuechly and Johnson in coverage and Tannenhill and his tight end found a gap and made the completetion.

He was 1 of 2 LBs in our nickel package, which we did play neverly as much, or more than our base D. Also he was the ILB along with Phillips in our 3-4 package, but never the MLB in our base 4-3 package.
Oh, and on the 3rd & 2 play were Kuechly tipped the pass, we were in our base 4-3 defense with Kuechly at his OLB spot. What was strange about this particular play was that Nakamura was at the nickel and Catain was at free safety lined up all the way back.

I'd prefer if Kuechly start at LOLB because:
- This is the position that we need him the most.
- He needs to continue to get the position down.
- Beason will be back soon enough so there's no need confussing Kuechly with two different positions.
- Kuechly will be more productive if he concentrates on one position.
- We need a LB that can cover TE's.
agreed
