Herein lies the problem. There are three basic ways to add personell. Draft, FA, and Trade.

Where we will draft next year, high 20s, MAY yeild a DT. But, he will basically be a 2nd, as the pickings start to thin by then. So you may not get that dominant DT you are looking for.

As for FA. This may just be a possibiltiy next year. If Rivera is pleased with the other two levels, and the right guy becomes available, we may just invest in an elite young DT to put us over the top. I think we will be adding one very good FA next year. And if Rivera thinks it is a DT. I am all for that.

Trades are rare. Especially for top shelf talent. It is just one of those practices the Panthers rarely use. But I will add, that this regime seems to be willing to upgrade when options become available. So a trade is not out of the question.

We are going in the right direction. We are willing to upgrade. We are already knocking on the door. The future starts next week. And it looks a lot better than it did 6 months ago. But no where near as bright as where we are heading.

With our cap situation I very much doubt we're going to sign an elite young DT. For us we're going to have to draft an elite DT.

We kept Fua over McClain? What a joke.

I really hope Edwards is what a lot of people around here think he is...

Fua also plays special teams. Don't think I saw McClain on st.

This is surprising, I haven't even seen Fua too much this Preseason, or at least I didn't notice.

kearse IMO was the most productive interior lineman during the preseason. he got decent pentration at the 3 & also held his ground when double teamed

After the number that the staff determined they were going to carry at each position was set, you would not cut a QB, WR, or OL to add another DT. The only one you mentioned that could be argued us Fua. However, as many of us get...Fua us a NT and we added an UT. You cut an UT in order to sign a better UT.

I am amazed at how difficult it is for much of the huddle to understand. I thought we had a more knowledgeable group than that...but apparently I was wrong.

You know that old saying “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink". The same thing can be said on here, you can lead the huddle masses to logic but you can’t make them think.

I must have misunderstood, I read it like Dwan was a 0, rather than a three. However, as bad as we got carved up the middle last year two 0's would make some sense as well.

I looks like should be pretty stout against the run, if we can force offenses into being one dimensional it'll bode well for us...as long as we can manufacture either a pass rush or solid secondary.

not to get too technical but 1, not 0. 0 is two-gap.
Dwan's definitely a 3, and has a lot of experience in the 3-4 so you could say a 5, but I don't know about saying he's a "dominant force" there either, and Rivera did.

Hurney's 2011 draft update

Newton- BUST
McClain- cut
Fua- still here, not impressive
Hogan- played 3 games last year, none this year, he's done
Pilares- gave us the longest KO return in panther history last year against former panthers ST coach for the lulz
L. Wilson- Cut, drug charges
Zach Williams- injured reserve
Ziemba- injured reserve

Thats right, Marty said we are building through the draft...

I'm really shocked by this but he played all game against the Steelers. So I can see it coming. I still think he had more potenial then Fua.

I'm still not happy we got rid of Shirley.

I used to get angry over huddle posts, now it's just comedic gold. The huddle's a place to talk about the panthers, with a bit of dark humor on the side.

So much for all that arguing people made in favor of our rookie DTs over the past few months.
