So... when he was in Carolina it was acceptable, ya know, Steve Smith being Steve Smith. Ya know, flossin' and being like all cool and hip, as the kids say. Now, he's moved to a different team and it's unacceptable? Personal insults - bad father, arrogant, etc...Yep, hypocrisy. It's awesome!
He is just making a fun comment on a horrible talk show. He is an eccentric, flavor filled character.
Shrug it off, walk it off, whatever it takes to realize the most important thing about the Carolina Panthers is THIS Sunday, not last year.
anybody with a lick of awareness who watched steve smith's antics here knew they wouldn't appreciate it if they were directed at the panthers
also you should know that you're not the first sanctimonious toolbox to make this argument
lack of depth at offensive tackle is a much more serious issue and if you seriously think steve smith would have made up for deficiencies in that area i don't know what to tell you
zod, a guy who actually knows people inside the organization and has been in that locker room, has also repeatedly spoken of the fact that nobody looked to smith for leadership. the idea of him being some kind of player-coach because he's old and a former all pro is a fan perception of it.
yeah it's not like we had a 2-14 season on smith's watch or anything since we're operating under the assumption that he would singlehandedly keep us from getting blown out
some of the stuff that jeremy has shared in the all pro section about steve smith and his role on this team is interesting to read in light of the popular fan theories. the idea that old man smith would have been standing up in front of the dry erase board coaching up and mentoring the rookies is a joke.
maybe cutting smith was out of respect? Maybe GMan knew this season was going to be a cluster fug and smith deserves better than that. maybe, Jr wanted smith to have a chance to win a superbowl.
if it was out of respect (really doubt it) then steve sure as poo didn't get the message based on recent comments
it's a frustrating situation but steve basically said he was going to spend his last season in carolina counting his money and chasing stats. he should be sending gettleman those mail order fruit baskets you see advertised on late night TV every week for cutting him and lighting that fire again. i don't think he's gotten this much media attention since at least 2008 to boot either.
