I was thinking that cap would be in the higher 20 mils the other week.

Gettleman should be getting heat for some of the specific players he brought in but I do agree with not completely going off the rails against him until this next offseason unfolds.

Take Cam's #s off the potential space and we're looking at roughly 12/13 million give or take for about 8 positions not counting draft picks. The nice thing is that it doesn't figure in the unexpected cuts or straight up pay cuts that could happen.

We should be able to add a good and proven vet or two this coming offseason.

Cam's numbers are already a part of the 130mil contracts. He has 14mil coming to him

the Panthers will spend all their cap on defense and 2 of the first 3 picks will be defense, the Huddle will cheer in April, and then complain about not hanging with Rodgers and Brees in September, while the offensive talent erodes away for a 5th straight year.

I'm all for Defensive FA and take BOPA each round. Tevin Coleman and Kevin White out of this draft! Would also like to see a TE to replace Dickson that actually makes our 2 TE sets scary

It looks bleak at the moment, but for some good news, Rivera teams close out the season well! There is hope and there is even more hope on the horizon.

For all the Gettleman bashers, I'm not quite on your train yet and I don't think I will be for at least two years. Here is why:

-with the exception of Hardy and Bell, we aren't scheduled to lose any heavy hitters
-our salary cap really begins to open up

On the salary cap:

-we currently hold contracts that total 130mil for 2015
Ok, let's assume that the cap set by the NFL increases from the current 133mil to 135mil. We also have 7mil rollover.

135 mil + 7mil=142mil Cap
142mil-130mil=12mil Cap Space

That's not all. No Way Godfrey stays! In 2015, he has a cap hit of 7mil and his dead money hit is 3 mil if cut. Let's assume we cut him pre-June 1st. We can then add an additional 4mil to our cap space for the year. Also, DeCoud has a 2.2ish mil cap hit/.25mil dead money hit. IMO, gone!

We are now looking at 18mil in cap space.

That's still not all! We can except that CJ will be here awhile longer. There is roughly 9 mil to gain in reworking his contract. Let's assume we get 5mil of it, which we can do and still be clear to cut ties with him in 2016 and gain monster cap space.

If we get 5mil off his base salary converted to bonus, then we are now:

23mil in cap space.

What about Cam's contract? He is on the books already for 14mil. That 130mil 2015 commitment includes the start of Cam making huge bucks. Signing to a properly balanced deal can actually reduce that 14mil number in 2016, but only moderately.

We can also cut D-Will as a June 1st cut. That would add another 6mil to our cap space for 2015, but count as 6mil worth of dead money on the 2016 books(basically replaces the dead money of Smitty/Godfrey).

The Good:

Potentially 29mil in cap space with Cam's "blockbuster deal" numbers already starting. If done right, that's enough to keep Hardy and sign JPP. It's also enough to sign some quality OL and DBs.
A good draft(Gordon/Coleman and 3 more starter quality guys) and we get very well rounded.

The Bad:

We stuck with Stewart at least till 2016

#3009306 Cam v. Luck - The "Build Around" Philosophy

Posted by Gin and Juice on 10 October 2014 - 06:58 PM

I get the whole phrase "build around Cam" but in all honesty, it's just building an offense! Whether its Cam or Derek or a 2016 draft pick.....weapons are weapons!

Worst part is, as bad as we want it, you can only have but so many A class players but for so long

One thing a great leader will do is find those perfect opportunities to remind his team that they are not immune to getting their butt kicked.
A part of me believes that is what happened last night. A reminder to keep putting in the work

#2800287 PFF: Kuechly among NFL's most overrated.

So over the Racism!

We have a top notch black QB and a top notch white MLB on the same team.
We are breaking barriers my friends! Stereotypes are falling.

Now we just need an elite black LT and an elite white CB. We will then become the most overlooked team in the NFL.

Add 25 pounds of muscle to him and he becomes the next Alstott. A bruiser that can double as a halfback/fullback. Imagine Tolbert catching screen passes while Gaffney is picking up the blitz! Linebackers/secondary would get their bell rung so hard dealing with an up to speed Tolbert in open field or Gaffney/Tolbert up the middle

That big ash Canadian down in Carolina is also impressing. Gonna be not pissed if he works out

BTW, 2nd amendment was not designed so everyone can have all the guns they want and have stand offs in Nevada ranches.

It is the least understood amendment in the Bill of Rights and is about nothing more than having the ability to create an army for the individual states or the nation if needed.

For all intents and purposes, it became obsolete after the Civil War.

Thank goodness I have the "enlightened", such as yourself, to tell me what the constitution means and shall be translated! Headed to turn in each one of my 17 firearms now!

Not sure who you are, but I'm glad you listened to your liberal professor in your one year of college long enough to educate me!

#2785262 David Newton a little more serious about Hardy's situation.

Jerry Richardson has the Rae Carruth scandal burnt into his memory. Don't think he takes this lightly

We didn't do Cam any favors by keeping Shula...

Everybody needs to quit sucking Cam off.....the one guy that can take lemons and make lemonade, it's him. Avant and Cotchery automatically boosts his completion percentage. He knows the goal is slow solid drives. We become a quick, scoring team and we kill our strength....defense. We then start playing shoot-outs and we will lose!

Another year.....same reaction. Everyone hated him this time last year and he was right!

Lets see:

KB-RAW! No denying the potential. Ricky is happy then we have a starting WR!
Ealy-compared to John Abraham and Robert Quinn. Craft needs honed, but definitely a starter and fug y'all! I'm big on the rotation.
Turner-may never be a pro bowler, but if you can't see that this guy is a day one starter at guard then ur blind. Very athletic(for a lineman)and high motor
Boston-I will admit, this one was a head scratcher. Read comparisons to Asante Samuels. Then I remembered he played for UNC and there is no other school that can make a good player look average as UNC.
Bene-has upside. Fits our opportunistic D we are trying to build. Obviously DG and Wilks love this guy.....he must fit the system well.
Gaffney-gotten better every year and had 21 TDs in the PAC last year. Baller!

Newsome echoed DG's sentiment. DG didn't want Hurst, so get over it.
When we have more take-aways than anyone else next year because we are rotating in fresh, stud DEs then everyone will clamour over the draft strategy, but in the meantime.....lets see the full plan!

#2774947 2nd Round Pick Kony Ealy DE

You don't just get a shutdown corner after the 2nd round. We need OT depth and hopefully a steal.
