When we signed him I did a deep dive on his Houston days. One of the things I learned was that Chris Palmer didn't really put much effort into teaching Carr how to read a defense. Yes, you read that right Instead, they'd just write a play and tell him "throw it to this spot". Yeah How in the unmitigated hell a coach with years of actual NFL coaching experience believes something like that is a truly viable option... I'm just never gonna understand that

I mean the post quite clearly stated that we expect a QB to be an all time great and expect them to be easily attainable and neither of those things are true of those of us skeptical of Bryce's ability to put it together. I don't think I'm conflating my opinion with others save the multitude of posters (many of whom are posting in this thread) that are wanting to move on from Bryce. Many of the options thrown out are absolutely not that level.

heck, without the huge gambles of going for it on 4th down (which isn't really normal work).....he would have been 130 in the last game. Because those 2 huge passes barely got him to 200. Which would have been sub 150 in 4 of the last 6 games and under 200 in 5 of the last 6. I mean, this season is what it is. And I can celebrate finding any which way to win. That's cool. But acting like this is good play and production from a NFL QB 3 years in remains a wild thing and even wilder thinking this is a good path/plan going forward. once again, it's really just one Atlanta game as the actual outlier really. and 1 game outliers vs the rest isn't an indication a QB might be able to be a franchise QB

Carr wasn’t gonna make it in the NFL. Getting the crap beat out of him didn’t help but he held onto the ball too long. People remember him in a sympathetic way because there’s this belief he was ruined. But he just wasn’t that good. -

That oline was a friggin joke and his receivers were bad his rookie season. Think thay drafted Andre Johnson and some more offensive players his second year and things got a little better. Then Andre Johnson started getting injured, and it went back to weekly beat downs. -

Yeah, that is certainly true. -
Bryce will get the 5th year option because he probably was always going to. It's rare top 5 overall QBs don't the option, if not an outright extension, outside of being a complete and utter dumpster fire. I've conceded the 5th year option argument a while ago, but I'm not budging a damn inch on a long term extension. He can't get in his feels when hears the outside noise to 'prove himself' only to follow up said redemption game with a 100 yard, 0 TD and 2 INT game.

Bryce?? -
All of this sounds funny until you look at Love's numbers and passing charts... The people who are unhappy with Bryce generally are harping on wanting the kind of passes love is throwing. Half his passes were 10 yards or longer and almost a third more than 20 yards. I do think that broadly some fans do not realize just how down passing is. The pendulum is swinging to a different type of game. But Bryce is still waaaaay under expectations even considering that. However he's had some great games in the last couple weeks (and one huge stinker) so hopefully he's gonna be able to put it together for a playoff push.

The more experience you get in college the better your chances at the next level--(See, Nix, Bo; Richardson, Anthony).

The sacks were only half the story. His early coaching was awful. I mean like Hue Jackson with the Browns level awful.

I am not sure we'd pass up an edge or LB for a playmaking TE, but this year-the cards could fall that way. I said "I would not be surprised if..." and then Mr Scot tried to pin me down on it--can't trust him--married a Cowboy fan. I digress. I do think Bryce would benefit from him. I want a #2 WR-with Coker as our Adam Theilen II--but this suggests we are still waiting for the XL light to flicker on. Evans has been impressive, and Tremble is not getting the credit he deserves as a blocker. I still want a QB who can be developed as we give Bryce another year.

Yeah but Dak is a top 10ish QB. Bryce has been a bottom 5 QB. They are not remotely the same. You have to go in there with some kind of justification for what you're demanding. He has the team record for passing, and he's been attributed to a lot of GWDs. But Dan can easily come back with every other stat. He ain't getting that kind of money from any team right now. And agree a 5th round QB makes sense for development.

Yeah, I haven't looked but I have to assume that 3.3 Sacks/GM has to be the record. That is insane. -
Nah. I hadn't seen it because that wasn't how I interpreted it. Don't know that I've seen anyone suggesting we tank (not really a practical suggestion with only four games left) though that element does hang around on an annual basis. Ditto the "hey this guy's good, let's trade him" crowd. They show up every year As to the Cam comparisons, that was kind of the point. Stroud, Fields, Richardson and others weren't true examples of a Newtonesque archetype, yet a lot of the people arguing they should be the pick invoked Cam's name on the logic that they were. What I think you're ultimately doing here is somewhat conflating your take with others. No, you're not doing the things talked about, but others are. And those are the ones being referenced in posts like that one. As mentioned, my whole thing is arguing not to keep Bryce long term but remaining realistic and substantive in the context of those arguments. That may be a lot to ask in a sports talk setting these days, but hey...

Just looked it up. It was 76 his first season! He was sacked over 200 times in his first 60 games with Houston! That's pretty brutal man. And in his case, quality is even worse than quantity. He had a few hits where he was absolutely demolished. I remember feeling sorry for that dude. He took a beating almost every game. -
Bryce Young absolutely could not demand top QB money. There is no friggin way he'd go into Dan's office asking to be paid like Mahomes. I'm not even worried about that. Thinking 30-35 if they extended him now. But I would not do that now. He'll play next year after thay pick up his 5th year option. He's not delusional.
