Besides the draft capital it would cost us. The annual salary we would have had to pay for Watson and a vet LT we would have put us in a situation where we would not have been able to keep some of our players and sign any decent free agents. While Icky and Corral are basic unknowns I believe we got what we wanted from this draft and will watch Cleveland struggle to keep talented players around Watson.

How can you not want a mauler like Icky who's only goal is to get better. He may not be the best pass protector but I do believe after Campen gets ahold of him. He's going to be better than he was in college. Good or Bad year for Corral I think we have found our QB of the future. He's a leader and players are ready to go to battle with him. I don't know if I can say the same thing about Sam. I was on the Howell train pretty hard but I think after watching a lot of Corral videos I believe he is the real deal.

I don't see it happening. If Rhule flames out, Tepper is not going to want to have another rookie head coach running the team. McAdoo would most likely take over. Two reasons. 1. He has experience as a head coach 2 and most importantly he was probably the #1 reason why we drafted Corral. We would not have to worry about him going someplace else. This is my biggest worry with McAdoo. He'll get us going in the right direction and we'll lose him to some team that is drafting a rookie QB. If Rhule was fired I would hope that the team retains Snow as he seems to be a really good DC.

Chances Matt Corral starts Week 1
DaveThePanther2008 replied to ENCPantherfan2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I voted 50-75%. I truly believe he is going to really shine in preseason. That said Sam is going to have to lose the job. He's the #1 QB going into camp. If he settles in behind our new offensive line he could hold off Matt. I love Corral's fire. He seems to have more of a fire to him than Sam. Players seem to gravitate to him. He's a good leader and that may be his trump card. -
Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I went on YouTube and watched several games from last season and can see the reasons why McAdoo likes him. His quick release was on display. He made some really nice throws and had many good passes dropped. What I really like was you could see he is a baller and was highly respected by his teammates for his toughness. He made some mistakes but overall was a good QB. Other than the Alabama game where his O-line was extremely overmatched he played well. Also his fakes are very good and reminded me of Brees and his fakes. He uses the check down well and will be much better with it when he knows CMC is that check down. What I think he needs work on is pinpointing his deep throws a little better, but he has the arm for it. Also I would like to see him put some touch on some of his throws. These are traits McAdoo will be able to fix. I believe with good coaching and experience he will be a long time QB for us. I'm excited. -
Rhule is on the hot seat and Corral may be his only savior. If Corral shows he understands the playbook he should start. If Rhule goes with Darnold and we continue to lose I think putting Corral in late in the season will not save his job. His best bet is to go with the rookie and let him learn. Plus if Corral starts and loses Rhule has a fall back that "rookies make mistakes and next year he'll be better."

I agree. Our defensive backfield has changed dramatically and he doesn't fit our scheme. Some of you have very short memories. Bradberry played extremely well for us and many of you wanted him to stay. To act like he was a marginal player is insane.

The real question is. Are most of you going to have the patience with a Rookie QB. It's not very often that a rookie comes in and takes over the league. I believe Corral will beat out Sam for the starting spot. I do believe he'll struggle as he learns NFL defenses. If he does struggle 95% of you are going to be screaming trade up in 2023 for a new QB. We have to be patient. I enjoyed watching the elite 11 series that he was on. It clearly was focused on Lawrence and Fields. Corral made his case and had some really nice throws as a high schooler. I think the RPO offense he was a part of did not take advantage of his arm. I think he can make every throw we need him to make. I hope he learns our offense and balls out. Maybe he'll win Rookie of the year.

I watch most of the episodes and though Corral didn't win the MVP he was clearly in the running until the end. The boy can zip a ball and those worried about the deep ball should watch this again. After watching this I am very happy we drafted him. Hopefully, he turns into a franchise QB.

Forgot about DJ I was more worried Pickles might have an issue with it.

Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I guess our future offense's will be similar. If McAdoo gets this team rolling he will surely be offered another HC job. -
There are several QBs that have shined their first year but there are also HOFers that absolutely sucked their first year. If he can pick up the offense I think with his quick processing skills he'll win the job against Darnold. Actually I think this offense will benefit both QBs as it won't require the QB to throw 300+ yards per game. Unless Corral looks totally abysmal I think we stick with him going into 2023. Plus with the talent we have I don't see us losing the majority of our games. We'll, at minimum, be about .500.

Nice write up Top Dawg. I think the early success of this franchise doesn't help the matter. People think that once a change is made, success is imminent. Tepper's rookie mistake was giving full control to a college coach. I believe Rhule's fate for 2022 was to give up some of that power. Plus get experience coaches. I really hope our new staff gets us moving in the right direction. I'd rather win with Rhule than have to start over with a new regime.

I believe this a bit more now that we actually have coaches that can develop players. The previous regime was a bunch of college coaches that were teaching college level development.

Big call. I usually wait until I can read more on these guys and compare to what we need.

CBS Sports gives Carolina a C- for the Draft
DaveThePanther2008 replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
We never get any good reviews. I saw the other day on NFL.com where out of the top 7 picks we were the only team that got an A- for Icky. I don't even pay attention to these because they have weak takes on how we scored so low. -
If we get 4 or 5 of them it will be a good haul.
-
So we've made all our picks. Now we start to focus on UDFAs. Anyone that is still out there that we should target?

Round 7 Pick 242: Kalon Barnes, CB, Baylor
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Clearly a project but we have a great DB coach in Wilks. If anyone can get him to be a better CB Wilks in the one to do it. -
Giants could have severely altered our draft trajectory
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
It was a good move for the Giants. The risk of losing Thibodeaux was much higher than losing Neal to us. Plus had we taken Neal they still had Cross and Icky to choose from. So basically by taking Thibodeaux they couldn't lose. It also didn't hurt that much of the pre draft chatter was we will trade down. -
It wouldn't be the first time a team drafted a LT and moved them inside for one season. I am excited about this line regardless of where they put these players.

You aren't setting the bar too high. LOL. Erving will probably be on another squad by the time we get to the 53.
