2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed, Too many people in this forum expect every draft pick to be instant starters and produce numbers that say they were an awesome draft pick. 2021 picks just about all of them contributed during the season. We can't say that about many, if any, of our previous drafts. MY belief is that year two the game will slow down for many of these guys and with better coaching they are going to statically improve. Are any of them full time starters outside of Horn and Christensen? Maybe not but if they contribute in the time they are on the field than those draft picks are a success. Nixon and Hoskins are prime examples. They showed flashes and hopefully they become good rotational players. In the end defenses are graded on a whole not just who's starting. I look forward to seeing 2021 class and our new rookies to contribute and make this team good. Maybe I am just overly optimistic but unlike many huddler's believe. I don't think our 2021 picks have reached their full potential. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
McAdoo uses the tight end in his offense. (or so I have heard) Tremble should have much better numbers this year. I think he is under valued as a receiver. Also as you said I wouldn't be surprised to see Thomas do well in this offense too. Hubbard had 3.6 yards per carry behind the worst line in the NFL. I think given a better offensive line he is going to have a much better YPC in 2022. The trio of CMC, Foreman and Hubbard is going to give McAdoo fresh legs each game. Plus each RB has their own unique skill set which will also give McAdoo a variety of ways to use them. I like our RB room. -
Most of us are raving about our 2022 picks and rightly so. Icky and Corral were awesome choices. Not to mention the potential we have in our other picks. It got me to thinking what should we expect from our sophomore class. I always contended that 2021 was one of Carolina's best drafts. I think it is time for them to get going and start contributing. JC Horn - I expect him to pick up where he left off and with Wilks being his new coach he will be even better. T. Marshall - I think he is going to take what he showed in preseason 2021 and apply it to the field. I think Corral will love his height and catch radius. I expect good numbers from him. B. Christensen - I think he starts whether it is LT and let Icky get used to the speed of the game at guard or be inside as a guard but either way I think he starts. *** See D. Brown*** T. Tremble - I think he is going to be a beast in the running game and really improve in the passing game. We don't really have that big named TE and I believe he will be the #1 targeted TE on this team. I don't think Ian Thomas will pass him on the depth chart. Chubba Hubbard - I think behind this line he is going to be dangerous. He is very good when he gets to the second level. I would not be surprised to CMC in the slot with Hubbard as RB. That will make things very difficult for defense.. Some think he was a wasted pick. I think the trio in the backfield group is going to be one of our stronger offensive groups. D. Nixon - With a year under his belt I think he'll be much better in 2022. I think if he can hold his own on the interior D-line our defensive line won't be too bad. We've always had DTs that are rotational. K. Taylor - He'll see playing time IMO is good depth and situational appearances. Our DB backfield is pretty loaded by Taylor should contribute when called upon. D. Brown - At the end of 2021 I wanted to see more of him and let him show what he can do. Fitterer did a good job to solidify our offensive line I am not sure he'll start. However, with any O-line group depth is a huge necessity. He may contend for the guard job with BC. I look forward to seeing him battle for a starting guard spot. I would not be surprised to see him beat out BC and BC becomes a swing tackle. S. Smith - He's currently #4 on the depth chart. I think he has amazing hands and made a couple of really nice plays for us last year. I think he'll contribute more in 2022. Maybe he'll have a connection with Corral and be solid depth. T. Fletcher - kind of a wasted pick but may hang on to take JJ spot after 2022. P. Hoskins - had sporadic success last year but with the loss of Fox hopeful he fights for that spot. At minimum, he will be rotational depth. Thoughts

Matt Corral vs the Old GOAT
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Starting Sam only puts us another year behind. Corral more than likely will have rookie mistakes. Most NFL rookie QBs do. Starting Sam only puts the rookie in the lineup 2023. Might as well let him learn this year. He should have a decent line to protect him and won't be running for is life like last year's QBs. As stated he has some great weapons and will not have to be the savior. Just learn the offense and take what the Defense gives you. -
West coast offense on the East coast
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Talent wise Darnold and Corral are probably pretty close. What separates them is Corral is a better processor and has a quicker trigger. -
West coast offense on the East coast
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
McAdoo will, IMO, install his offense and expect Darnold to execute it. If he can't than Corral should be given the opportunity to do it. I do not see us using an offense just so Darnold can start. The offense, as I understand it, is a run first offense and should take a lot of pressure off the QB. If Darnold can execute it there really isn't a decision to make. Corral is the man.- 24 replies

Could Jimmy G still be on the table?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
The only way we get Jimmy G or Baker is if they are released. We are not going to pay big bucks for a rent-a-QB. Doesn't make sense. -
Matt Corral vs the Old GOAT
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Corral was rated as one of the top 3 QBs in this class. He fell to us and we, IMO, made a smart move to get him. I get the coincidental comparison of Montana and Corral. I want you all to reflect on last season. Before I say any more, I have never been a person to diagnose a game like some of you do. That said, I can recall many games where a WR was wide the F**K open and Darnold missed him or threw it late. Corral has that quick release and can read the field well. I honestly don't think we'll see him pull a Darnold and will see those open receivers and make those plays. I did watch quite a few of Corral's games on Youtube and one thing that stood out was if he is in a clean pocket he will make a good accurate throw. His O-line wasn't the greatest so those times were not very often but when he had them. He was deadly. I joked the other day about him being OROY but if he is given a chance to start from day 1 I would not be surprised to see him in the running. We definitely have the weapons to make it easy for him. -
The TE room doesn't have a Greg Olsen type player. Thomas was not signed for his pass catching ability though he has the ability. He was signed because he's a blocking type TE and will be big for us in the run game. Tremble is a great blocker and IMO a better pass catcher than Thomas and has a huge upside and I expect him to really shine this year. TE's on this team are going to have to be good blockers. If Babicz plans on making this team he is going to have to show he can block first. If he shows growth during OTAs, minicamps and training camp he'll probably be on the practice squad.

Besides the draft capital it would cost us. The annual salary we would have had to pay for Watson and a vet LT we would have put us in a situation where we would not have been able to keep some of our players and sign any decent free agents. While Icky and Corral are basic unknowns I believe we got what we wanted from this draft and will watch Cleveland struggle to keep talented players around Watson.
-
How can you not want a mauler like Icky who's only goal is to get better. He may not be the best pass protector but I do believe after Campen gets ahold of him. He's going to be better than he was in college. Good or Bad year for Corral I think we have found our QB of the future. He's a leader and players are ready to go to battle with him. I don't know if I can say the same thing about Sam. I was on the Howell train pretty hard but I think after watching a lot of Corral videos I believe he is the real deal.

I don't see it happening. If Rhule flames out, Tepper is not going to want to have another rookie head coach running the team. McAdoo would most likely take over. Two reasons. 1. He has experience as a head coach 2 and most importantly he was probably the #1 reason why we drafted Corral. We would not have to worry about him going someplace else. This is my biggest worry with McAdoo. He'll get us going in the right direction and we'll lose him to some team that is drafting a rookie QB. If Rhule was fired I would hope that the team retains Snow as he seems to be a really good DC.

Chances Matt Corral starts Week 1
DaveThePanther2008 replied to ENCPantherfan2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I voted 50-75%. I truly believe he is going to really shine in preseason. That said Sam is going to have to lose the job. He's the #1 QB going into camp. If he settles in behind our new offensive line he could hold off Matt. I love Corral's fire. He seems to have more of a fire to him than Sam. Players seem to gravitate to him. He's a good leader and that may be his trump card. -
Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I went on YouTube and watched several games from last season and can see the reasons why McAdoo likes him. His quick release was on display. He made some really nice throws and had many good passes dropped. What I really like was you could see he is a baller and was highly respected by his teammates for his toughness. He made some mistakes but overall was a good QB. Other than the Alabama game where his O-line was extremely overmatched he played well. Also his fakes are very good and reminded me of Brees and his fakes. He uses the check down well and will be much better with it when he knows CMC is that check down. What I think he needs work on is pinpointing his deep throws a little better, but he has the arm for it. Also I would like to see him put some touch on some of his throws. These are traits McAdoo will be able to fix. I believe with good coaching and experience he will be a long time QB for us. I'm excited. -
Rhule is on the hot seat and Corral may be his only savior. If Corral shows he understands the playbook he should start. If Rhule goes with Darnold and we continue to lose I think putting Corral in late in the season will not save his job. His best bet is to go with the rookie and let him learn. Plus if Corral starts and loses Rhule has a fall back that "rookies make mistakes and next year he'll be better."
-
I agree. Our defensive backfield has changed dramatically and he doesn't fit our scheme. Some of you have very short memories. Bradberry played extremely well for us and many of you wanted him to stay. To act like he was a marginal player is insane.
-
The real question is. Are most of you going to have the patience with a Rookie QB. It's not very often that a rookie comes in and takes over the league. I believe Corral will beat out Sam for the starting spot. I do believe he'll struggle as he learns NFL defenses. If he does struggle 95% of you are going to be screaming trade up in 2023 for a new QB. We have to be patient. I enjoyed watching the elite 11 series that he was on. It clearly was focused on Lawrence and Fields. Corral made his case and had some really nice throws as a high schooler. I think the RPO offense he was a part of did not take advantage of his arm. I think he can make every throw we need him to make. I hope he learns our offense and balls out. Maybe he'll win Rookie of the year.
-
I watch most of the episodes and though Corral didn't win the MVP he was clearly in the running until the end. The boy can zip a ball and those worried about the deep ball should watch this again. After watching this I am very happy we drafted him. Hopefully, he turns into a franchise QB.

Forgot about DJ I was more worried Pickles might have an issue with it.

Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I guess our future offense's will be similar. If McAdoo gets this team rolling he will surely be offered another HC job. -
There are several QBs that have shined their first year but there are also HOFers that absolutely sucked their first year. If he can pick up the offense I think with his quick processing skills he'll win the job against Darnold. Actually I think this offense will benefit both QBs as it won't require the QB to throw 300+ yards per game. Unless Corral looks totally abysmal I think we stick with him going into 2023. Plus with the talent we have I don't see us losing the majority of our games. We'll, at minimum, be about .500.
-
Nice write up Top Dawg. I think the early success of this franchise doesn't help the matter. People think that once a change is made, success is imminent. Tepper's rookie mistake was giving full control to a college coach. I believe Rhule's fate for 2022 was to give up some of that power. Plus get experience coaches. I really hope our new staff gets us moving in the right direction. I'd rather win with Rhule than have to start over with a new regime.

I believe this a bit more now that we actually have coaches that can develop players. The previous regime was a bunch of college coaches that were teaching college level development.

Big call. I usually wait until I can read more on these guys and compare to what we need.
