  1. Not in on bringing in another RB, but here is some info: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/running-back/available/
  2. Dalton made an early excuse to make sure he was not going to have to go in.
  3. Not good. Was hoping Miami would sneak up and take that division. Change of pace.
  4. Also from the Washington Post article: Lewis [the author of the book] said that ultimately after agent fees and taxes, he and the Tuohy family received around $350,000 each from the profits of the movie. Lewis said the Tuohys planned to share the royalties among the family members, including Oher, but Oher began declining his royalty checks, Lewis said. Lewis said he believed the Tuohy family had deposited Oher’s share in a trust fund for Oher’s son. “Everybody should be mad at the Hollywood studio system,” Lewis said. “Michael Oher should join the writers strike. It’s outrageous how Hollywood accounting works, but the money is not in the Tuohys’ pockets.” Additionally, Lewis said that two years ago Oher called him to ask about a speaking tour to make money discussing the book. Lewis raised the idea to his agent, but nothing came of it. “What I feel really sad about is I watched the whole thing up close,” Lewis said. “They showered him with resources and love. That he’s suspicious of them is breathtaking. The state of mind one has to be in to do that — I feel sad for him.” The nature of the conservatorship that Oher was placed under is not clear and somewhat unusual. Tennessee law reserves conservatorships for people with mental or physical disabilities who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves, said Barbara Moss, an attorney in the state who is experienced in conservatorships. “You have to have a doctor say you have a mental or physical disability in whole or in part,” Moss said. From an outside legal perspective, she said, the arrangement with Oher and the Tuohys was “bizarre.” “I’ve never seen something like that happen,” she said. “From what I know of Michael Oher … he wouldn’t have qualified.” Lewis said he believed the Tuohy family chose a conservatorship for Oher because the process was quicker than traditional adoption. And they were concerned about the NCAA investigating Oher’s choice to attend the University of Mississippi, where the Tuohys were boosters. In the lawsuit, Oher claims he was told the papers were “a necessary legal step in the adoption process” and that he learned only in February of this year that the papers “were not adoption papers or the equivalent of adoption papers.” In his 2011 memoir, “I Beat The Odds,” Oher wrote the Tuohys were “named as my ‘legal conservators’ ” in the summer after he finished high school, describing a scene where he went to the courthouse with the couple to “celebrate.” He wrote that the Tuohy family “explained to me that it means pretty much the same thing as ‘adoptive parents,’ but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/08/16/michael-lewis-blind-side-lawsuit/\ Does not sound like what they did was even legal. Money does have its privileges.
  5. Fun facts: "Fred Smith, who owns FedEx, bought the movie for his daughter [Molly Smith]," Tuberville said. " Molly Smith is a producer and was an executive producer for the movie. Fox, however, never made the movie. (According to Lewis, the studio had thought Julia Roberts would be interested in the film, but she wasn’t.) Instead, Lewis said, Alcon, a small production company backed by Tuohy’s neighbor, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, stepped in. Instead of paying the actors large salaries, Lewis said, they were offered a share of the profits. Lewis said his deal provided him a share of the movie’s net profits, too. Warner Bros. distributed the movie. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/08/16/michael-lewis-blind-side-lawsuit/ Atlanta Falcons HC Arthur Smith is the son of Fred Smith. His youngest brother Connor married the Tuohy daughter Collins.
  6. I think Oher says he did not...the family says he did. Should be a paper trail to eventually sort out the truth for most of the stuff.
  7. Well....looks like the Cowboys are fighting with themselves: Here are some practice observations from the final padded practice of camp in California. Despite going the through the entirety of training camp without any extracurricular activities, the tension boiled over on Wednesday as two separate fights broke out between the offensive and defensive lines. In the first skirmish, Sam Williams and Brock Hoffman got a little chippy after a one-on-one pass rush drill, and when Williams went to go take a cheap shot on Hoffman with his back turned, Tyler Biadasz came out of nowhere and leveled Williams, kicking things into an all-out pushing match. However, it was the second skirmish that involved a lot more activity as Tyler Biadasz once again got into it, this time with Micah Parsons who threw his fair share of punches. If Mike McCarthy wanted the intensity to be higher on Wednesday, he definitely got it. (Nick Harris) https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/practice-points-cowboys-bring-the-fight-wednesday

  9. People who have plenty of money always want more. The Tuohy's profited beyond the direct proceeds from the movie. As you said above likely made their businesses more popular, they gained fame and a lot of other doors were likely opened for them as a result. Still...there has been a lot of back and forth between the sides. It will be interesting to see how the facts play out. It does seem that meeting the criteria for the conservatorship when it was put in place is questionable: According to Tennessee law (the state where Oher and the Tuohys filed the paperwork), a conservatorship “removes the decision-making powers and duties” from a person with a “disability who lacks the capacity to make decisions in one or more important areas.” According to the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, a person requesting to become a conservator can apply to do so under these conditions: A person supported in the Tennessee DIDD waiver; or A person supported enrolled in the EFC (Employment and Choices First) Choices program; and A person supported over the age of 18; and A person supported who is financially indigent; or A person supported who is not financially indigent, but receives prior approval from DIDD’s office of general counsel; and A person supported who has an urgent or emergency need for a conservator due to their current conservator no longer being able to serve as conservator or due to a medical need. _________ Also- Could the Tuohys have adopted Oher once he turned 18? Yes. According to Tennessee law, “When petitioner seeks to adopt a person who is eighteen years of age or older, only the sworn, written consent of the person sought to be adopted shall be required and no order of reference or any home studies need be issued.” If the Tuohys would have adopted Oher, the family wouldn’t have had the legal rights to make decisions for him once he turned 18 since he would be a legal adult. That’s unlike a conservatorship where the conservator controls the financial decisions for the ward. https://theathletic.com/4778704/2023/08/15/michael-oher-conservatorship-blind-side/ It is curious that it is still in place. That has not been explained as far as I have seen.
  10. Ravens -Commanders joint practice day 1: The biggest takeaway from Tuesday’s practice was all the fighting. Emmanuel Forbes got into a scuffle with a Baltimore wide receiver, and others joined. Ravens tight end Mark Andrews bodyslammed Washington cornerback Danny Johnson for no apparent reason, and Commanders center Nick Gates was also involved in another battle. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and the teams accomplished what they set out to do. https://commanderswire.usatoday.com/lists/washington-commanders-joint-practice-baltimore-ravens-observations-training-camp/
  11. I have problems using my phone on this site. I have a strong wifi signal but if I try to respond to a post it often will not load or takes a long time. Like you, no problems on my desktop.
  12. I think he is a secret weapon. Would not be in the vanilla plan.
  13. 1) Functional Oline 2) Defense that defends occasionally 3) A few points for the good guys
  14. Here we go: “God, I love kicking people’s a-----,” Saleh says at one point https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article278295578.html Preseason??? Kicking ass not the goal. He wanted to sound like a bass ass on Hard Knocks. Guess he got a little butt hurt by Sean Payton's comments. A little early to get cocky.
  15. Jets might find it difficult to find a joint practice partner next year.
  16. Their players practiced against him everyday which should give them some good insight. Also may be other inside info.
  17. Indianapolis took a big chance drafting quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in April's draft, and Colts owner Jim Irsay feels the rookie will need to see the field sooner rather than later for it to pay dividends. "As you guys know, Peyton (Manning's rookie) year we were 3-13, the first year," Irsay said on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday. "That's a guy who played a lot of college games and was really prepared as much as he could be for the league. So, for Anthony Richardson, it's going to be tough. We know that. But he has to play to get better. I mean, there's no question. Gardner (Minshew) could come out and play better early on, him just being a veteran, but we have to get Anthony on the field. And that's (head coach) Shane (Steichen's) call when he decides to do it." While Irsay didn't make any declarations or demands about Richardson being a Week 1 starter, instead leaving the ultimate timeline to his new head coach, he made his stance on his rookie potentially being forged through the fire clear. https://www.nfl.com/news/colts-owner-jim-irsay-advocates-for-early-usage-of-qb-anthony-richardson-he-has-
  18. IIRC the Jets ran a few that the D did not handle.
  19. Good that he is expecting it. I am sure Campen got the message to his oline.
  20. Per Mike Kaye from the Mailbag: Regarding the outside options, the choices are on a very slim list. Dalton Risner, the former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos, remains unsigned for whatever reason. He played left guard in Denver, and had an up-and-down fourth season with his former squad. Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, linebackers coach Peter Hansen and senior defensive assistant Dom Capers worked in Denver with Risner last season. If that trio felt like Risner was a good fit for the team, he probably would have been signed already, especially given the urgency of the competition on the line. Gabe Jackson, Justin Pugh and Andrew Norwell are the other “name” options, but all three of those guys are on wrong side of 30. The team could also wait for the waiver wire following cut-down day, but that would be a pretty quick turnaround for a player who wasn’t deemed worthy of a roster spot elsewhere. 21. Because of what Payton said recently...I was pulling for the Jets when they play week 5. Now I hope they tie.
  22. In Spartanburg it was a joint decision between the HC's due to the storms/rain. This sounds like the Jets just changed their mind about the agreement they had with the Bucs. Different situations...Saleh was involved in the 1st decision and this says he made the 2nd decision solo. But I agree...he sounds like a jerk.
  23. Saleh....seriously?? Preseason?? What a jerk.
