I don't mind that idea one bit. Not too far back and will likely still get one of our targeted guys at 8.
-
I hear you with the risk/reward but think both Darrisaw and Little have the LT gene compared to a lot of these other second tier linemen. I've floated around who I like the most but those two consistently played above average to top level. Jenkins & Vera-Tucker are next in line Then I think you have a really good crop of dudes that are RTs/Gs. Still could have great impact, but not the types we'd just be throwing over there on the left side day 1. If we wind up CB in the 1st with a trade down, maybe we make a trade up for the tackle we want. It doesn't seem to be Slater at 8. This is going to be a really fun draft this year. Haven't been this all over the place with who we'll grab in forever. Guys like CMC, Star, Burns, Moore we could kind of see coming. I have no idea this year.

I will say, Darrisaw is much closer to Slater and Sewell than the likes of Eichenberg, Cosmi, and Jenkins. Would love him. Also would not mind taking someone like Walker Little in the 2nd one bit. I mean, we could be targeting 2 people in the end of the 1st/2nd round but wanting to stay in the top-16 in a trade down. But we need to draw a hard line. If we're giving NE a QB, they need to give us their 2nd and 2022 1st. This is not some slight trade up for a skill player they'll want, it's a QB. Lot's of possibilities: 1-Surtain II CB/Christian Darrisaw LT 2-1-Richie Grant S/CB 2-2-Walker Little T/G, Leatherwood T/G, plenty of WRs, more CBs Or maybe we do like Mond or Mills hehe

Wayyy to nuanced (relatively speaking) and toned down to be chuck. Chuck doesn't write this long of posts.

Really appreciated those 4 wins and 15 TDs! hehe
-
Oh I misread, if you're saying this being his total cost for his panthers' stay then yep, totally agree. Thought you were saying the trade was misguided.
-
Entirely disagree. No deal: We pay Teddy $21 mil 2021, still on the books for 2022 With a post-J1 cut: 2021: $15 mil dead cap, clear $7.9 mil in cap space 2022: $5 mil dead cap and we’ve got $21 mil more to spend. With deal: 2021: Gain 6th rounder, gain $6 mil in cap (yes though more dead cap is eaten that was GOING TO HIM ANYWAYS) 2022: $26 mil freed
-
Yup. Buuut there was still going to be a bit of dead cap with a cut (5 mil I believe) instead of a trade so that's why this helped. But you are generally right and it's also why I disagree with the whole "worst contract ever" narrative. HE GONE
-
Not to mention he's basically off our hands next year. $26 mil off the books 2022. A Post-J1 cut would have still hit us 5 mil. The only better case scenario would've been a higher draft pick (or never signing him in the first place lol)
-
That's what I'm seeing. We gained $5.9 mil this year. Eating 17 mil that was going to him anyways. Then next year the salary floodgates are opened. It was this or a post-June 1st cut. Am actually surprised we got this done, was sure he was going to just get cut eventually.
-
He was going to be a $20+ mil roster spot anyways. We're still saving $5.9 towards the cap. The money was going to him either way; we apparently would rather pay him not to be here and save a tad extra.

Patriots have talked to the Panthers about a draft day trade
davos replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d take their 2021 1st, a 2021 4th (they have four), 2022 1st, and 2022 4th At 15, could be looking at Darrisaw, Horn, Surtain, Teven Jenkins, some good options. Wonder if we think Richie Grant is a 1st rounder? That may be a reach but you never know. Seattle had the rep for making what seemed to be slight reaches high up that worked out because they fit the team great. -
@Verge So from your vantage point, is our board something like this?: 1. Penei Sewell 2. Patrick Surtain Jr. 3. Trey Lance 4. Justin Fields *This assumes Lawrence, Wilson, Jones, Chase, Pitts are off the board. And we still appear pretty quiet about Slater. Panthers.com did a thing on him one time but I've seen little connecting us.
-
I'm usually really nerdy about all prospects but I haven't given the CB class a hard look outside of Paulson Adebo (who I love for us). Is the word pretty strong on Surtain in scout circles? High floor with him and looks like he can just walk into any team and be their best corner.

To steer this back to the draft and keep the mega thread going...ATL going Lance could really swerve it all. Many (including myself) bought into the Pitts pick at 4 but Lance is a definite possibility there. Regardless of Ryan, Arthur Smith is a young coach wanting some life injected in the bland Falcons product. 1. JAX Lawrence 2. NYJ Wilson 3. SF Jones 4. ATL Lance 5. CIN Sewell 6. MIA Pitts 7. DET Chase 8. CAR Fields (or) Slater (or) Smith (or) Horn (or) trade? -- That could be the top-7 selections if all teams stay put. If ATL doesn't go Lance, then trade ups could happen, but if they do, then I don't see much movement until we're on the clock. Talent is too good for those teams to pass up. Word is DET is pretty high on Slater so if they did, do we just go for a juggernaut offense and draft Chase? So many possibilities.
-
Weren't Ron and Marty rumored to covet Flowers in that draft? Well he got em' at his 6th team change.
-
There's a lot not mentioned about that but him being called the N word was on tape and the whole racial friction with the baseball team was a thing. I mean, players were dismissed from the team. I think he wanted to just hit refresh. He only spoke highly of UGA after leaving but it seemed like a lot was hush hush. Do wonder what all really happened.
-
It's actually extremely revealing to look at the starting QBs in conference championship games since 2005. It's 1st rounders galore.
-
2019 or 2020 Jones? If the latter, phew, we dodged a bullet. Being the Alabama QB and still managing to get what 2 DUIs is a red alert with me. Bama cops will do anything to avoid that happening. The Alabama QB is favored and sheltered more than elected officials down there. He almost would need to make it their only option remaining to arrest him.

I'm saying it's not cut and dry BPA or Need Based. It's a dance because these teams have their boards with specific players and it's all mapped out in their blocks. If one player remains in their top block when the pick comes, they'll likely go with that player and not pick a need based from the block below.
-
Yeah, I think Lance or Devonta being available could prompt a trade back. I can see teams jumping up for one. People are commonly thinking it's to get Lance or Fields, but there's a significant drop IMO after Chase, Waddle & Smith and a lot of NFCE teams that could use one. NE and Minny as well.
