Wentz update: Trade is close, with three teams involved
davos replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. I imagine that's our last resort and could see a cut if/when no one wants Teddy via trade. Have to look at that difference in dead cap relative to the cap relief as usable gains, which as you mention, is roughly $8 mil. So, yep, take what we get from cutting Teddy for a much more appropriate backup/bridge QB situation and with probably $5 mil more to spend. I don't think we need to fork out any huge contract for another vet QB, looking at backups around the league, it's a 3-5 mil type situation. Sure, we are eating ~$10 mil towards no one, but I view that as money well spent to just keep Teddy away. That dead money would just be part of another lost season of Bridgwater..so if we can use the usable gains for more than just replacing him with another meandering vet, then it's an easy decision IMO. That's a few mil towards Moton, or a FA at LB or CB. -

I mean, Philly has sent an over the hill QB to the Skins before in a trade *cough* McNabb *cough* -

Yeah they could very well be the "third" team here. Which would be fine and the NFCE isn't shy to trade in the division. -

Even though I'm 100% Panthers, it would be nice to see the Bears with a good QB situation for once so I hope they avoid Wentz like the plague. -

I rescind my Patriots guess after reading they're not involved (edit: but it can always be misinformation). The only 2 other logical spots that I could actual see a team rolling the dice given their draft spot is the WFT & the Broncos. -

He just looked broken to me last season. It has to be the Colts given the familiarity and Reich being there and all. Wentz will know the offense and the coach knows how to use him. Sleeper/mystery team? The Patriots -
I imagine we've already had some chats or at least called NYJ, Miami and Cinci if we're as aggressive as it seems with just seeing what's out there. Gotta wonder what we're willing to do and how we're ranking Zach, Fields & Lance

Something looks off w/ the contracts and dead money in spotrac. OTC seems to be a bit more in line from what people have been saying about our books.

This will be a very interesting offseason to see how Fit and staff sort out the cap and what contracts to offload (i.e. Short, Weatherly, etc.) We can carve out some cash to work with. I'm honestly a bit excited to see what these guys do.

Wow...Panther’s social pretty honest about Teddy.
davos replied to Tbe's topic in Carolina Panthers
Exactly the issue. He's like what the 18th-ish most expensive LB in the game? Not worth it but not entirely detrimental. -

I'm not but it's as much shade, maybe even more than the TB. The writing is on the wall for Bridgewater for the world to see, he is done here. Buuuut Shaq was given the clear chance to step up and given a nice fat contract after years of production. He's actually quite a solid player but just not a leader for this team. -

With Brown & Chinn going into their second years, I can see why. Bridgewater isn't long for these parts and those dudes are the team leaders. Who's surprisingly not in there is Shaq Thompson. He should have assumed the role of the leader of our defense last season and clearly did not. -
For all you new-school fans: Do I have to say it?

I think even more than the lines, Mahomes just wasn't with it last night. His arm didn't seem like its normal self and he was noticeably slower than usual. Maybe that concussion got to him or something. -

Maybe this win propels TB to retire and it's open season in the NFC. He was already the GOAT, Mahomes would've been crowned this new perennial GOAT. I think we're in fine position if we can figure out the QB position in good order. We'll see. -
Surprised this hasn't been made into a bigger deal. Young was a force but didn't even have that huge of a year for a top pick, and he missed games. Equaled the same amount of sacks as Burns' first year at 7.5 but don't forget Rivera shelved Burns' in his stupid rookie treatment strategy. Young: 44 total (32 solo) tackles, 7.5 sacks, 4 ff (14 games) For Perspective--Burns Year 1: 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 1 ff (15.5 games, but really only ~12 bc of Rivera) Chinn: 117 total (68 solo) tackles, 2 ff, 2 tds, 1 int, 5 pds I mean, sure safety/lb/db hybrids get more tackles, but yeesh, I really think Chinn got fleeced. Young is an absolute force and definitely outshined Burns' rookie season in some respects, but Chinn made play after play this year. To only get 4.5 votes (2nd in voting) doesn't give him the credit he deserves. It's just a random rookie crown but I hope it makes him and the rest of these young guys come back with a vengeance next season. Would love to see us become a fierce defensive strong team to compliment the playmakers on offense. Let's just get the OL and QB right plz.

Ugh sh*t game. Didn't expect this. OL aside, Mahomes looks slow to process tonight. I think his concussion the other week set him back. Really don't trust the protocols and what we're told regarding QBs miraculously returning from them when it seems to take many linemen weeks upon weeks to get back. Feel bad; it's brains.

Tim Weaver & Panthers Wire ranks 8 QB trade targets (sans Watson)
davos replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I do think only 1 trade should take precedent over the draft and that is Watson. Then we go for our guy at the top of the draft in Wilson/Fields/Lance. If that's a no go, then we have a prioritized trade list. Then FA last resort. -

I mean, call the writer whatever, but if we're looking at guys who aren't broken, showed promise, and may just need a change of scenery, those three are Minshew, Darnold, & Hurts. I'm not no board with Tua. He concerns me after watching him this season. He had some good streaks and times when he was throwing downfield, but he's very safe with the football/risk averse to the point where their offensive stats looked like ours with Bridge/Mike Davis. -
"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"
davos replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. He still presses the ball/isn't timid or broken like say Wentz, Goff, or a David Carr looking back a bit. -
Yup. I actually find the board quite enjoyable at the moment. Another name I thought of--Dpantherman He would volume post more than Chuck and Scot combined.
