I may be reading too much into this, but the comments from Canales about Horn don't really indicate good news. He compares him to Deven Thompkins, whom he said he loves, and Thompkins had a really good camp last year and was creating separation and making plays just about every day. But Thompkins was cut. And when we did bring him back, it wasn't for any real meaningful snaps. And then we cut him again. That's not a guy I would want to be compared to. Granted, we did draft Horn, and Horn isn't Thompkins, but Canales praised Horn as a guy that made other guys better, not as a guy that was playing well. And I think there is a clear difference. Just trying to see through the coach speak.

Dotson seems more like a safety to me. I think he could be a solid Cover 2 corner or robber type because of his size, vision, and ball skills. He's just a bit slow. He kind of reminds me of Roman Harper. But Dotson would have to become a much better tackler to play safety full time.

Yeah and the defense was the worst in history, statistically. And then we invested heavily into defense this off-season. We had holes everywhere last year and weren't a good team.

Maybe the offense doesn't have any excuses, but the defense has to give the team a chance. We can't be playing from 3 touchdowns behind and expect the offense to still thrive every game. We have to get some stops on 3rd down. We have to be able to create more time of possession for the offense more opportunities through turnovers. There's more pressure on Evero than there is on Bryce I think this year. Even if only slightly.

It's like anything else. The leadership and staff needs to have a clear vision and communicate their expectations. Then the players have to buy in, hold themselves and each other accountable, and follow through.

Supporting Bryce is based on continued growth, which he has shown. If he regresses to the state he was in last year in the first two games? Then it is time to move on. The issue is that he HAS shown growth and the haters are trying to assess him as the player prior to his ascension. And they seem to almost be rooting for his failure. It's sad.

Honestly, if he can't crack 3000 yards over 17 games, then yes.

Some of you Bryce haters can call yourself realists all you want to but even if he did put up those stats or better next year, you would all just say "well let's see if he can do it again, because a lot of quarterbacks have had one good season" or "not that he's good so much as he has so much talent around him". You wouldn't give him the credit he's due and it's exhausting

He was seated right next to Morgan, looked to be in the thick of things when picks were being made, and I even saw him dialing the number for at least one guy we were drafting. If this draft works out, we may have a new process of selecting players. Analytics like Eager's may change how scouting is done (or what is asked of scouts) in the future. Data processes the player, scouts may analyze the person.

I actually completely understand this, sadly lol. I had the same reaction when we drafted Luke. I did so much research on him and wanted no one else in the 1st round. He was the guy. When Goodell read his name on the card, I lost it. I called my uncle (another diehard Panthers fan) and got lost in celebrating until I looked up and 10 picks had gone by.

I'll be honest, I thought I was going to have to jump ship after the first two games of last season. Which sucked because I don't usually get MASSIVE and UNSHAKEABLE conviction about a lot of guys in the draft, but Bryce was one that I did. The only other pick I wanted more than Bryce was Luke.

When Cam was quarterback and needed help after his first two years and we rarely brought him any: Can we get the man some receivers and some tackles?! He would kill it if he had help! When Bryce is quarterback, needs help, and we continually try to bring in help for him instead of drafting a replacement after year 2: Are we coddling him? Huddle gonna huddle.

One of the things that makes TMac an interesting big receiver prospect, is how low he can dip his hips in and out of breaks. This may not seem like a meaningful trait to most, but this is something that, physically, a lot of big guys cannot do well. This limits their flexibility, their ability to beat man to man, and the ability to make themselves skinny/small in run after the catch in traffic. This has been an asset to him, particularly on 3rd down and in the red zone. Both places this offense struggled receiver-wise. If you rewatch any videos of him, watch him on 3rd and in red zone. He seems to always get open and he never drops a ball. Other situations? Sure, he can use some development to create separation, but here? He's a weapon already.

Smitty has little man syndrome, even in his evaluations. It seems like every receiver over 6'2 he has to belittle or take down a notch. He is a classic example of not being able to take emotion out of evaluation. He builds up the little, tough guys because he relates to them. But he looks at the fluid, effortless big guys as being overrated or not hard working. He's usually wrong about a lot of his assessments because he can't get outside of his own head.
