  1. Mike Sando pointed out that while the Rams are giving up a third rounder as part of the deal, they'll be getting two compensatory thirds because of the Lions hiring Brad Holmes.
  2. Multiple sources saying what helped seal the deal is that the Lions were willing to help the Rams get Jared Goff's contract off their books. That allowed the Rams to offer more than other teams were willing to do.
  3. A lot of people aren't convinced that the Texans can be talked into trading Watson at all (I'm dubious myself). But after seeing what the Lions got for Stafford today, if they do, the price is gonna be obscene.
  4. I wouldn't have offered that much. But in this case, the Rams are also helping out a guy that used to work for them.
  5. That's what I was looking at yesterday. Won't surprise me if somebody from one of the other teams that was looking to acquire Stafford grumbles to the league about the quid pro quo here. Don't know that anything would come of it but could definitely see the complaint being made.
  6. If Stafford went for a package like this, the Texans will be in position to demand a deal that involves numerous first round picks, your firstborn and your immortal soul. And that's if they even agree to trade him (which I'm not convinced they will). There's no way I can see us making that deal now.
  7. Rams guy who drafted Goff becomes GM of the Lions... Lions agree to part ways with Matthew Stafford... Honeymoon is over between the Rams and Goff... Lions GM calls his old team... Rams get a QB better equipped to run their system... Lions get a former number one overall pick plus a ridiculous compensation package... Wow
  8. The Rams must really really hate first round picks.
  9. Breer didn't think they could make the cap work. Actually a lot of people think that. This is the trade I was expecting yesterday when I read the Rams were interested. Their having the Lions scouting director who drafted Goff made it make sense.
  10. Not happening. Panthers tried but the Rams are apparently offering Goff plus a couple of first rounders. Crazy stuff...
  11. Breer mentioned that he has a couple of teams he'd prefer but doesn't think it's likely he goes to either of them. That doesn't make me think he's got a lot of control of the process. Throw in that we're one of seven teams said to be solidly in the discussion, and have been considered a possible favorite. I don't know that he ends up here (gun to my head, I'd probably still say no) but I've read enough to believe it's very possible.
  12. Sounds like we might not have to wait too long to find out...
  13. Breer said the Panthers are "solidly" in the mix, going as far as to predict that Stafford would probably end up either here or in Washington. He also firmly believes the Lions will get a first rounder in return. Putting those two things together, if we get him we're likely trading the number eight pick, maybe a little more.
  14. That's not great leverage though. We've got his old QB coach, good players at the skill positions, a very popular young OC and we're believed to be trending in the right direction. I don't really see Stafford having a problem with being traded here.
  15. Oh, and we've gone this whole discussion without mentioning Sean Ryan. There's that too, for whatever it's worth.
  16. Yep. And in this case, of the teams that are said to be in on the discussion, we have the highest pick (that's not true with Watson). I've been skeptical of us trading for Stafford, and I kinda still am. But the more I read, the more I start to think it's a real possibility.
  17. Not sure if that gets the deal done. Thing about trading the number eight is that the Lions already have number seven. Packaging those two picks would give them a lot of ammo to trade up and get one of the top quarterbacks in this year's class. Or hell, they could just say "We've got two top ten picks. Let's use them."
  18. Decided to look up what the Lions team needs are just in case a player is included. Among the needs I've seen mentioned from a couple of different sources: linebacker, receiver, pass rusher and cornerback.
  19. Breer has mentioned Washington and Carolina as two teams he believes could be favorites to land Stafford more than once. Funny to think of us in trade competition with a team that has Marty Hurney in a high position. Lord knows Marty might throw everything and the kitchen sink into an offer. But worth noting that Marty's not in charge. Rivera is, with Martin Mayhew as second in command.
  20. I think if it happens it includes #8, Bridgewater and probably a little more. Mind you, nothing along the lines of what we've been discussing for a Watson trade.
  21. And the trade terms could be agreed upon within the next few days. Word from a couple of different sources is that the Lions want to get this done ASAP.
  22. Disagree but unless he actually decided to fight over his destination, it doesn't matter. There's been zero indication he's planning to do that.
  23. Breer's mid Senior Bowl Periscope... Besides the things already mentioned, at about 9:30 in someone asks "Stafford goes where?" Breer thinks for a second and answers "Washington or Carolina maybe". Mentioned earlier he's also heard Washington would be very interested in Sam Darnold if the Jets decided to go in another direction from him.
  24. Lions might be one of the few teams you could actually see taking Bridgewater in a trade.
