  1. Anything that coms from David Newton requires context.
  2. I would add IF we get a good offer. Theilen would need to be agreeable to the idea, of course. (not certain that's true)
  3. "If you don't know former Carolina Panthers linebacker Tre Boston..." No, no I really don't
  4. There are occasional big trades during the final preseason week, but it's definitely not the norm. There's also the guarantee factor for vets on the roster Week One that makes a lot of teams wait till Week Two to go after veteran players
  5. Assuming he doesn't push for a trade. Though again, I doubt he has any real leverage.
  6. Also this... To be clear, Avery stated that he is not talking about race, but have no further clarification that I saw
  7. Pretty sure we interviewed Peters for the GM job when Rhule was here (they were old acquaintances). As I recall though, he noped out of the second round. Always figured he balked at the idea of being second in command.
  8. Also, to be fair to Michael Vick, it typically takes about 20 years to fully learn the West Coast Offense
  9. Just saw this... I get that as an agent, it's his job to advocate for his client. I question whether he really has a leg to stand on here, though
  10. I feel like Darnold is a guy that can have a partially good season, but never a complete one. To his credit, he did at least improve the number of games he was capable of looking good for after he left us
  11. Get off my lawn Reid coached Vick for a while. It helped, but ultimately Vick was still Vick. One of the maxims I swore by for years was to never sign a free agent QB from Reid's system because they never looked the same anywhere else. Would that apply to Mahomes? Difficult to say. I might lean no, but it applied to McNabb. Doubt that theory ever gets a true test, though.
  12. Most of the guys I would have considered elite have retired.
  13. Never said he wasn't legit, but I don't put him on the level of someone like Mahomes yet. But I'd also add it wasn't just his team. Allen himself made his own fair share of mistakes as well.
  14. MLFootball is a sh-tty source. That said, it sounds like they're paraphrasing some comments Newton made when he was doing the "Special Forces" competition last year. I remember those seeing him make statements to that effect. So...technically correct, but reporting is still refried zebra sh-t.
  15. Logically speaking, every trade is different. Speaking from experience, I'm extremely gun shy about trading away future first rounders
  16. Allen as a quarterback is to me right now is what Andy Reid used to be as a coach. For the longest time, Reid would look like a world beater in the regular season only to flame out in the playoffs. That's Allen right now (Jackson too). Reid got over the hump. Allen and Jackson might also... ...but neither has just yet.
  17. Allen is the success everyone shoots for. Richardson is the more common result. Mind you, if Bryce reaches the kind of success we're hoping for, he'll be an outlier as well.
  18. Newton made it to the Super Bowl, and commandingly so. MVP doesn't prove anything to me until he at least makes it to the Super Bowl.
  19. Hell, even Allen himself hasn't proven he's got it all just yet. Bottom line though, shooting for the next Josh Allen / Cam Newton all too frequently nets you the next Anthony Richardson / Trey Lance.
  20. The whole "take the phenomenal athlete and teach him to be a quarterback" model is just something I've never believed in. They have to have the quarterback skills first. If they're also a great athlete, that's gravy. But The idea that you can turn a lousy passer / processor into a pro quarterback is just fallacy.
