Did Cade Mays get benched or injured?
Mr. Scot replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd still likely guess benched, but Reich didn't clarify. -
Scott Fitterer Set Us Back A Decade w/ Two Trades

Hot takes are generally dumb takes. You've got a bunch who are going to throw out panic takes at the first sign of adversity just so if things actually do turn out bad they can say they said it first. Mind you, if the takes wind up looking stupid they'll either act like they never said them or go "oh, I'm happy to be proven wrong". Yeah sure Nuance, patience and perspective aren't popular ideas on the Internet. -
I'd give that title to Rivera over Fox, honestly. But yeah, it's not saying much.

We've still got some folks on here who want Newton back or think we need another version of him to be any good. Reality though? There aren't a whole lot of Cam Newtons out there. Newton was way more unique than a lot of folks give him credit for. The guy who people thought was this year's version of him has already been hurt in each of his first two games, with the second injury being a concussion. What's also still true is that passing rules the NFL, not running. If your quarterback can't read a defense and be an effective passer, it doesn't matter if he's the greatest runner in the world. You're not going to win a Super Bowl with a guy like that. If you believe we can, then maybe you should push the idea of trading for Taysom Hill and making him our franchise quarterback instead

Bryce Young is not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL
Mr. Scot replied to FutureDynasty's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not talking about your reaction when I say that... Some of the others on here though -
Good analysis. My biggest read off of that final drive is the improvement from last week. Against the Falcons, Young didn't look comfortable running an up tempo offense at all. This week, he handled it quite well. (and no, I don't give a sh-t if it was against prevent)

Appreciated, though I'd probably say I don't really have a full "assessment" yet. It is still just two games. As much as anything, I just disagree with the emotional "everything sucks" overreactions I'm seeing. In truth, not everything sucks. There were actually good things to be seen in the games played so far. And that at least is encouraging. -
Bryce Young is not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL

Yes we did. We had three scoring drives before the final one. Those field goals count too. As to the final TD, the Saints may have been going prevent, but once we got close they realized they'd screwed up and quickly adjusted. Even with that though, we still scored on a very good play by Young. That was, as mentioned, the first touchdown that the Saints defense had given up this year. They held the Titans to field goals only. More to the point though, Young actually looked like he knew what he was doing that drive. In week one, he didn't look good running the up tempo attack at all. Hence, improvement. -
You shouldn't be. This is basically panicked decision making.

Realistically, 2023 was always going to be a throwaway season. I'm not sold on the idea that next year will be though. As far as promising, not throwing three interceptions is a good start Better though would be that we faced a superior defense yet scored more points than last week, even with a starting guard out. -

That's where I disagree. I definitely saw things I liked in Young's game, and improvement over last week (all chronicled elsewhere). Could he turn out to be a bust? Sure he could. He could also turn out to be great. It's just way too soon to know. -

Damn @Ricky Spanish, just looked back over the board and saw three pages worth of new threads about how everything sucks. Makes me glad I'm not a mod -

Nah, I don't see that as a failing. Maybe just a nervous moment at worst. Part of the reason I'm not worried about Bryce is I've seen probably hundreds of new quarterbacks in my time watching football. Most of them start off looking like sh-t, even the ones that turn out to be great later on. Peyton Manning tends to be a prime example (his rookie year was pretty bad) but a better comparison in our case might be Drew Brees. He didn't exactly set the world on fire in San Diego, hence why the Chargers decided to move on with Philip Rivers. When all was said and done of course, Brees and the Saints had a Super Bowl win while Rivers and the Chargers didn't. Rivers was certainly a good QB. Brees was just more successful. You might not have predicted it early on though... -
There's a title
-
Yeah, didn't see it. Sure as hell not gonna look for video of it. My Steeler fan sister in law might have though. She was watching that game.

Two games into a season is not "time" to do anything.

Kirk Cousins did it last year or the year before (don't remember which). It was the subject of a lot of jokes at the time. There's probably video on YouTube. When Beuerlein did it, he said it was because he was tired of looking at Frank Garcia's ass. Garcia insisted he had a great ass and Beuerlein didn't know what he was talking about. I'm not gonna claim to be an expert on the subject, but having seen Frank Garcia, I'd probably side with Beuerlein -
Thanks. We'll be heading to the hospital in the morning. Hoping whatever's wrong is fixable without her having to endure another surgery. She's had four over the last year.

I can't believe people are talking like that's a thing Do you know how many quarterbacks I've seen do that over the years? And the vast majority of them weren't anywhere near as young or inexperienced as Bryce. Hell, Steve Beuerlein did it here in 1999. He sure as hell wasn't a rookie at the time. -
We have six picks in the next draft, only one down from a full complement.
-
Yeah, he's done.
-
Maybe for the same reason 30 other teams don't? The primary reason why the Saints have Hill is because Sean Payton insisted on keeping him and signing into a good contract. Payton believed Hill was gonns be their next franchise quarterback after Brees retired. That didn't exactly happen, but they still found a way to use him. Has yet to impress any other team enough to try and duplicate it though.

You're always gonna have that crowd. -
Doesn't even require optimism, just enough wisdom to know that a two-game sample doesn't tell you sh-t.

Way too early to judge prior draft picks, especially given that some were drafted to fit into systems that aren't being run here anymore (that's what happens when you change coaching staff). As far as Sanders, no he hasn't accomplished anything significant yet. It's still just a couple of games against subpar opponents. His next two games are going to be a lot more challenging. I'd add that if you're hoping for Sanders to become a pro coach, you can drop that idea. He's already stated that he doesn't want to coach at the pro level.
