  1. I'd say he's played himself into being next year's backup. There's been a "diminishing returns" sort of thing going on with him as a starter, but if you only need him in spots he could be fine.
  2. Then Chris Godwin kills you. And yeah, we badly missed Horn.
  3. After which you've got people screaming "Why did we blitz when we knew Brady would dissect us like that? We should have kept more guys in coverage!" It's just a no-win situation.
  4. Blitz him and he'll find the open spot and pick you apart anyway, though. The best way to deal with Brady tends to be to generate pressure with four rushers if you can. If you can't, it's likely just gonna be a "pick your poison" thing.
  5. Meanwhile... Looking like that transaction has been an example of the elusive "win-win" trade.
  6. Speaking of Ellis... My understanding is that he's directing this at people who have communicated with him on Twitter. I can't say I've seen anyone show more vitriol toward Wilks than Rhule. To anyone who would do that though, I'd call you an absolute moron.
  7. Confirming the Harbaugh-Broncos story... There's an evil part of my mind that would love to see how Harbaugh would respond to Wilson's ego. Imagine Wilson suggesting to Harbaugh that he should be included in coaching and personnel decisions
  8. Interim NFL head coach is a hard, sh-tty and frequently thankless job. You're asked to lead a team full of players you didn't draft / sign / trade for using schemes you didn't choose with the assistance of a staff you didn't hire. Wilks did an overall admirable job in that role. Not a good enough one to make him permanent sadly, but it definitely shouldn't be forgotten just how much of an uphill climb this always was.
  9. There has been speculation that if Waldron does get a head coaching job, Smith will follow him to his new destination.
  10. They make a good leader. Leadership is only part of what it takes to be a successful NFL coach though. And it's other factors where I think Wilks has some good, some bad, but overall just not enough.
  11. Ellis and Kaye are both guys whose opinions I respect, but that doesn't mean I always agree with them.
  12. Our top two corners are hurt. Just how deep do you think the average NFL team is at that, or any position? Watson was generally accepted to be largely driven by Tepper. As to Wilson, there's no indication we were "in on a deal" for him, or did anything more than just make a phone call or two to check
  13. Add Callihan to the list of Wilks supporters as well...
  14. As to the topic... Speaking as someone who's lost my mother (to whom I was very close) my father and my brother, I can understand. My mother's death came just six weeks before the woman I'd been in love with for the past five years (and engaged to for a year and a half) left me, largely because her mother was a b-tch from hell (long story). I was, shall we say, unwell for a long time after that, but things get ultimately get better. Regarding the game, I've been a football fan since I was five years old but from the mid '80s until the Panthers came into existence I didn't really have a favorite team. I just watched the game For the love of it. And yes, there have been times when I've been tempted to go back to that status I haven't because growing older has made me more "fan" and less "fanatic". Losses hurt, but only about as much as a sad movie ending. And honestly, for as much as I might grouse about it, having a wife who's also a football fan helps because we can enjoy the games together. So bottom line, as simplistic as it might sound, the best thing I could say to anybody would be this: As much as possible, indulge in the things you enjoy and avoid the things you don't. As you get older, the difference between those things tends to get a lot clearer.
  15. If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's to never tell other people how to grieve. Come on, man!
  16. I remember a while back someone tweeting about how Tom Brady almost got his team to the Super Bowl and agreed to take less money to help shore up other positions while Russell Wilson didn't even make it out of the first round of the playoffs and was asking to have input on the Seahawks draft. Wilson seems to be one of the least self-aware people in existence. I can only imagine what the Seahawks had to put up with while he was still winning.
  17. I'd love to know the thought process that went into that decision. It's probably a lot like the one that resulted in someone paying Pauly Shore a lot of money to star in movies
  18. Rivera not going with a rookie QB? Who could have predicted that?
  19. Quinn wouldn't be my choice either, but I wouldn't go that far. I'd at least wait to see what kind of offensive staff he built. From the stuff we've been reading lately though, I don't think it's gonna be a defensive coach. (which I'm fine with)
  20. Yeah. I've seen them linked to both Harbaugh and Payton. Have seen Bieniemy's name thrown in there too.
  21. Can't say he doesn't deserve it... And it's a good time to remember just how big a bullet we dodged in that story.
