Dream HC/OC/DC Combination For Next Year?(Week 2 Edition)
Mr. Scot replied to Asaria's topic in Carolina Panthers
Va lid...when he gets to choose the coach. Tepper had suggestions the last time we had a GM search. He wanted a non-traditional GM with an analytics background rather than a personnel background. Rhule wanted a talent evaluator, and he won the argument. As mentioned previously, that is the one thing for which I'm thankful to Matt Rhule. I don't trust Tepper to hire a good GM. Hell, I'm not sure I'd trust Tepper to hire a good hot dog vendor. -

I sense that your feelings on this matter are not entirely genuine

Matt Rhule Introduced as Carolina Panthers newest head coach
Mr. Scot replied to therealmjl's topic in Carolina Panthers
What I remember most about the intro was how both Marty Hurney and David Tepper (especially Tepper) emphasized how they "just had a feeling" that he was the guy. The metaphor I used at the time was an elderly person falling for an insurance sales pitch, but these days "used car salesman" seems to be preferred. -
Is there any reason to keep Robbie Anderson after this year?
Mr. Scot replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Panthers aren't going into fire sale made while Matt Rhule is still in charge. -

Well for one, it doesn't necessarily take a huge amount of faith to trust anyone more than David Tepper. But for another, Fitterer has twenty plus years of legitimate experience as an actual football guy, has connections around the league, and has Dan Morgan working with him. I've yet to see anyone suggest a good reason why I should put more faith in Tepper whose coach hiring resume' basically consists of giving damn near a blank check to Matt Rhule, -

Also, a quick word to the "always support your team even when they're crap" crowd from Browns play by play guy Jim Donovan (retweeted by The Roaring Riot) ...- 95 replies

Are we at the lowest point in panthers history?
Mr. Scot replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think this past offseason when we first found out we were moving forward with Rhule was the lowest. Now at least we're seeing some games and there's hope for change. -

Power running teams do tend to kick our ass... -
Also why I couldn't support hiring another one, no matter how big their name is.

Winston playing with fractured vertebraes

Barkley still managed to hammer us when it counted the most. We pretty well sold out to stop the run. Guessing we probably didn't think Jones could beat us passing, but he did. -
Don't know if these count, but... Surely we can beat Nebraska, right?

Or they could play Dalton... I'd feel a lot more confident about that if I hadn't just seen us lose to Jacoby Brissett and Daniel Jones.- 27 replies

Pro Football network has chimed in... Their analysis: Matt Rhule might survive another few weeks, but there’s a good chance this team is 0-7 when they meet Atlanta in Week 8. With games against the Saints, Cardinals, 49ers, Rams, and Buccaneers in consecutive weeks, it would take the James Webb Space Telescope to see where they can notch a win. The offense was never going to be outstanding, but it’s been non-existent in the first two weeks of the season. Rhule fired Joe Brady before the end of Year 2, hiring Ben McAdoo as his replacement. In an age of offensive innovation, this never felt like a step in that direction.

That's the thing with the Panthers. Your average NFL coaching roster has guys that have been part of several coaching staffs. Ours has several guys that have followed Matt Rhule around for a pretty significant part of their careers. The longest tenured Rhule loyalists... DC Phil Snow (of course) DB Coach Evan Cooper LB Coach Mike Siravo RB Coach Jeff Nixon Assistant ST Coach Ed Foley S&C Coach Jeremy Scott The good news? Most of those guys are either non-essential or fairly replaceable. For example, Wilks can likely take over DC duties while still coaching the secondary, Al Holcomb can handle the linebackers and other assistants who stick can shift duties to cover what we need. Not like we're losing anybody that's world class or anything...

0-2 has Rhule’s seat red hot. Does 0-3 get him fired?

Does Tepper keep Fitt and let him hire his own coach?
Mr. Scot replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
We thought we were getting somebody that would be different than Jerry Richardson, but what's disheartening is just how many negative qualities Tepper actually shares with his predecessor. Richardson: "If somebody's good at one thing, you can trust them to be equally good at something else, like a sportswriter making personnel decisions." Tepper? "Oh this guy knew how to run a soccer operation so I'm sure he can run an NFL team just as well. It's pretty much the same thing, right?" Richardson: "I trust Marty Hurney." Tepper? "Ditto. Matt Rhule too. Hell, let's give him the keys to the whole damn thing! I'm a genius!" Richardson: "Jeans Friday" Tepper? "Deshaun Watson" Oy It's like he never left... -

Dream HC/OC/DC Combination For Next Year?(Week 2 Edition)

To be fair, Hackett's still only two games in. Early returns had us thinking that Dan Campbell and Nick Sirianni were going to be bad too. Speaking of Campbell...
