Yeah, I spent years hearing how criticisms of Marty Hurney weren't valid either. "You just hate him" Look how that turned out... That last line is a big part of the problem. When you say something like that, you don't actually have to defend your position because you're attacking the messenger, not the message. As far as specifics, the way most pro teams get a guy ready to play his chosen position is to give him as many reps as possible at that spot, not make him "earn it". That's a college approach. Could Ekwonu be ready? I sure hope so, but I don't have a lot of faith the team as a whole will. And I've got two years worth of reasons why.

And that's just a small sample, but an accurate one. Teams have been doing this for years. Heck, even prior Panther teams had rookie quarterbacks. Newton looked awful in his third preseason game, but at least he got the reps and was ready by week one. Corral doesn't have to be ready for week one, but Mayfield does. Ekwonu does. Hell, at this point, Cade Mays might have to. Oy...

Rewatched some of the old highlights. I'd forgotten that we were up by 11 with about six minutes left. Marshall Faulk put that Rams team on his back and practically willed them back to life. Faulk, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Az Hakim...damn, that team was loaded. Hell, I remember one analyst who predicted that weekend's games had said they'd all be close but ours. The Rams, in his words, were going to "throttle the Panthers". If I recall correctly, the other games were the ones that wound up being blowouts, whereas ours went on to be one of the greatest playoff games in NFL history. Moments like that are why you watch sports

Dick Stockton and Daryl "Moose" Johnston were the announcers. Right before the big play, you can hear Stockton pitching the upcoming Fox lineup of "Cops" followed by "America's Most Wanted". If you listened to Panthers radio at the time you probably recall Bill Rosinski's call of the game and the play, as well as Eugene Robinson yelling out with both excitement and relief, "It's over!"

Nah. I've said why I think certain moves of his have been bad multiple times. As far as the appeal to authority thing, I'd put it this way: Let's say you build a house. It falls down after about five days. You build another. It lasts a total of nine days, but also falls down. You give it one more try, and the final one makes it for seven whole days. But yeah, still falls down. Now, chances are you didn't do everything wrong when you built these houses, but you did enough that they weren't stable and now they're all flat. Seeing that, I don't necessarily need to be a certified engineer or have twenty years of home building experience to some to a pretty simple conclusion. You're a bad house builder. That's how it works...

Speaking as someone who hasn't necessarily followed Ebron's career that closely, did he ever actually live up to his hype? What I've read about him gives me the impression he hasn't.

They actually have nights still in movie theaters where ppl travel and pay to watch it.. So while you "think" you know this person and that person isn't good at something.. So within this paragraph, there's an argument that someone can be considered good at something because they made money doing it, as well as the notion that you need to be an expert in that same field to know when someone does something poorly. Both of those are really dumb arguments. I only addressed the first because frankly, I found that sufficient. Now I've addressed both. And also, thanks to the posts from guys like Wow and others, we're back to wasting time talking about the people doing the posting rather than the actual topic, just like what pissed off our mod @rayzoryesterday. Sheesh

Pretty much... Matt Rhule's decision making has led us to pretty sad results. It'd be pretty hard to argue otherwise. That doesn't mean every single decision he's made was bad anymore than every playcall in a losing effort needing to be a terrible choice. But when there are enough of them that you consistently don't get the results you want, well... Can he get better? It's possible. Likewise, the aforementioned Sam Darnold could suddenly become a great quarterback and lead us to multiple victories. A lot of us just don't see either of those things happening. And logically, why should we?

Setting aside the personal stuff, here's the thing... Darnold doesn't have to be a better quarterback than me. he needs to be better than Baker Mayfield. Rhule doesn't need to be better coach than me. he needs to be better than Bill Belichick...or whomever else we happen to be facing this week. Marty Hurney doesn't need to be a better GM than me. he needs to be better than whoever the Commanders are facing this season. We've been over the whole "they're professionals so they know more than you" suggestion numerous times on this board, and it's always been found to be a silly argument for reasons like those stated above. Being smarter than me or any other random fan is a pretty low bar to clear.

Pretty sure I've been critical of moves made by every coach the Panthers have had to this point, so not sure where you're getting your ideas there. As far as the "side note", using that logic, Sam Darnold must be one hell of a great quarterback
