Here are a couple of answers from an interview given shortly after Campen was hired by the Chargers... On Qualities He Looks for in Offensive Linemen "Mental toughness. If you're mentally tough and you can overcome things. Or if you can play with balance in your mind, you'll have balance in your feet. A lot of coaches have the same philosophy, 'Be where your feet are,' and you have to live in that moment. The moments are about 4.5 seconds and you're back in the huddle. You have to make sure you can turn the switch on and off when you need to and during that time be mentally tough, but know when it's physical and it's time to go." On Goals for the Chargers' Offensive Line "Just be consistent. Injuries are going to happen, but you have to be prepared. Guys will play positions and some of the backups will have to play multiple and be ready. When your turn comes, you have to be ready and take advantage of it. I 've been fortunate to coach a lot of players who weren't starters and then they got opportunities and they took off.. Expectation is leadership; 100-percent. I truly believe the offensive line drives practice, it drives everything. They have to be consistent and they have to be leaders." James Campen Talks Joining the Chargers' Coaching Staff There's also this video from when he was coaching for the Browns where a reporter asked him how long linemen should be expected to block. I like his answer.

If we do pick a lineman, my biggest hope is that the primary evaluation on that lineman comes from James Campen and not Matt Rhule. Will it? Unknown.
-
The whole thing about being able to win without necessarily having an elite quarterback did sound like it was some expectation setting.

Judging from Fitt's Comments, Reddick isn't coming back.

It's not just yours. -
I don't know that he is. The notion that he could be is largely based on his prior years' quarterback evaluations (lobbying for Mahomes for example). What seems more certain is that if we're taking his opinion into account when making free agent decisions, somebody up there thinks he's good. (my guess would be the guy who's in charge, given that he's the one who hired him)

Edited to better reflect what I was thinking...

Pickett "had fun catching up" with Matt Rhule

Wait till people find out he was late because he was busy talking to Matt Rhule -
There are two possible feelings you can come away with after reading that... One: Thomas might be better than we thought Two: McAdoo might not be as good as we hoped Guess we'll see which one is true in a few months.
-
From what Fitterer said, it sounds like the reason they signed him is because McAdoo thinks he can be good.
-
If he didn't overrule them for Justin Fields, what makes you think he'll overrule them for somebody who's nowhere near as good as Justin Fields?
-
I'd call that wishful thinking, especially as long as Matt Rhule is still in charge and needs to save his ass.
-
For the record, Michael Bidwill is a dumbass.
-
You have to also keep in mind that with the league wanting to expand to 18 games, it's possible the offseason gets pushed back even further. Ideas of this kind have been brought up before. The Players Association tends to not be a fan of such thoughts
-
That's... possible.

Liberty QB Malik Willis met with the Panthers
Mr. Scot replied to MechaZain's topic in Carolina Panthers
True, but we also got to look at how he played against the "big boys". It wasn't pretty. -
I could get on board with this. Probably worth remembering that Matt Rhule is a big Donte Jackson fan though.

Fair or not, the talk about Lance still not being ready is likely to hurt his stock. -

About that... -
Or possibly the veteran bridge that they take before drafting Kenny Pickett at #6.
-
Not a big fan of Steve Keim. Got a feeling Kingsbury has been found out by the league. Interestingly enough, Kingsbury and Kyler Murray apparently have the same agent (i.e. the guy who posted a novel about Murray just a few days ago).

Remember when the word was that Kingsbury was on the hot seat?
