If you've got a link to the Tabor interview, I'd actually like to see it. FYI: It was reported behind the scenes that David Tepper wanted to make a "big splash" hire when he chose Matt Rhule. Just another testimony how flat out stupid it is to make football decisions for non-football reasons...

Hey, when you get something wrong like that, just blame it on autocorrect. Not that I've ever done that

I think the Bears probably felt like they needed to hire a bigger name. Honestly hate that idea though, because there's definitely a chance you miss out on a talented coach. Then when they get a head coaching job down the road and kill it, you look like a dunce. Mind you, that's not to say I don't believe in Matt Eberflus. Most analysts think he'll be a great head coach.

Jeremiah: Panthers "dead set" on drafting an offensive lineman
Mr. Scot replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. He's one of those quarterbacks that occasionally makes crazy big plays, but the downs in-between those big plays are just horrible. And even those big plays have tended to only show up against weaker competition. If all you see are the highlight reel plays, you think "Wow, we've gotta have this guy!" If you look at the whole game tape though, you say "Eeehhh...maybe not." You take a quarterback like that only when you believe you can coach the bad plays out of them. Even with the changes this season, I have a hard time being convinced that this staff (especially with Rhule in charge) is the group who should be entrusted with that job. Throw in that we've actually already got two quarterbacks who fit that description in PJ Walker and Sam Darnold. Would you really want a third? -

Kinda doubt it. A guy who needs a year or two (or more) to be ready to start doesn't help Matt Rhule right now. Thought occurred to me too. -
Posting links via mobile goes wrong sometimes. What I quoted is actually the full text of what they say about the Panthers, but if you do want to read the rest, try this... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/one-critical-move-each-nfl-team-should-make-trading-russell-wilson-moving-on-from-zeke-elliott-on-to-do-list/

Have already stated it numerous times. Tepper needs to... 1) Fire Matt Rhule 2) Turn over the search for the next coach to either Fitterer and Morgan, an outside consultant like Colbert, or a search group, or basically anybody but David Tepper. 3) Realize he doesn't know jack sh-t about building or running a football team and henceforth sit down and shut up

Most experienced option is McAdoo. Second would be Wilks, then Tabor. If the choice is left to Fitterer and Morgan, I imagine it'll be one of those three. If it's Tepper, who knows what he might pull out of his ass?

Here's part of the Jeremiah segment from the Eisen show: This is not the part that mentions the Panthers, but it's about quarterbacks in general so it's interesting. Regarding the Steelers interest in Willis, there's also this: Previous scuttlebutt had the Steelers being interested in Sam Howell, but now it sounds like Malik Willis might be their guy. -

It very well could be. -
Tepper didn't have to be involved in daily operations to turn the team to sh-t. He did so by hiring a head coach who hadn't even proven capable of beating ranked teams at the college and giving that guy full control while also paying him a ridiculous amount of money. This was an unforgivably stupid move, and Tepper owns it. So far, he's shown himself to be a football moron.
-
Two things that bother me... First, they smokescreened interest in a quarterback last year. They could be doing something similar this year. And second, that phrase "even if it's a reach" isn't something I like to hear.

He doesn't necessarily mean someone within the current staff. The Texans have already said they won't do that. And frankly, if there are teams willing to trade without condition, why should they?

CBS Sports: one critical move each NFL team should make From the article... Carolina Panthers Identify a coach in waiting or at least get some back-channeling going early, because this Matt Rhule experiment has an expiration date around Thanksgiving. Resist the urge to trade for Deshaun Watson without full and complete closure on his legal status. This was written by LaCanfora, if you're wondering.

Prior relationship. Pittsburgh guys like Ed Bouchette, Gerry Dulac, Mark Karboly and others have been talking about back channel conversations between Tepper and Colbert for years. That's why there was so much speculation that Colbert would eventually become Panthers GM. At this point, I don't necessarily think he'd be named GM, but an outside consultant type role is very possible.

FYI for Matt Corral fans...
