  1. I'm blanking. Have we re-signed any of our own since free agency started?
  2. Reported by Jonathan Alexander and Alaina Getzenberg that the Panthers are re-signing guard John Miller.
  3. Blocking tight end, former third round pick of the Seahawks...
  4. I have no idea if he's guilty, and I'm not saying he is. Having 24 accusers looks bad, but that's not a guarantee of guilt in itself. I am saying though that if his defense comes out explaining rather than denying, that's going to be significant.
  5. I will agree that Newton probably wouldn't have fit into something like an Andy Reid system. But with that said, I'd still like to have seen what he could have done with better quarterback coaching. (fix his footwork at the very least; that's not too much to ask)
  6. Favorite "temporary" Panthers might make for a decent discussion.
  7. Said elsewhere what I'm going to be interested to see is whether his defense comes out saying he didn't do any of this or if it's more a case of "well yeah, he did this but it's not his fault because he has a fetish / illness / addiction / whatever". If they go into image rehab mode, they might save his career but it would mean admitting that he actually did do some or all of the things he's accused of. I seriously don't think you can trade for him at that point. You can't make that guy the face of your franchise.
  8. You don't have to try and make him be something he's not to develop him. You just have to try and help him be the best of what he is. Again, I don't think Rivera was the guy to do that.
  9. You have to remember cumulative effect here too. Football players' bodies don't break down just because of one hit here or there. You also have to account for the number of shots that they take over time. A particular hit might not look bad right when you see it, but those things add up.
  10. Riviera "letting Cam be Cam" basically meant he could be as good as he was, but he wasn't going to get any better.
  11. Any suggestion that Ron Rivera might have been the best coach to develop any quarterback is one I'm gonna be skeptical of. I've also long felt that the promotion of Mike Shula was a turning point in the wrong direction for Newton. Going with another OC and leaving Shula as Newton's QB coach would have been a much better move. if they were gonna go with Ken Dorsey though, they should have at least let him coach.
  12. Some of his other measurements though... First round might be high, but Breer makes a good point.
  13. Igo talked about Hurney and Rivera being afraid to challenge him for fear they'd make him mad. More than one person said Ken Dorsey was more like a buddy than a coach, but look at what Dorsey's been able to do for Josh Allen. I get the feeling that if we knew everything, we'd probably find out that the old regime was even worse than we ever knew.
  14. Football fans sometimes act like guys that are missing old girlfriends. We see an athletic quarterback and we say "Oh my gosh, it's Cam Newton". We see a fast, undersized receiver and we say "Look, it's Steve Smith". And yes, it's possible that someone could come out who's as good as those guys, but we need to be really careful about projecting.
  15. Two more came out today. Fourteen lawsuits have already been filed, with potentially ten more in the pipeline.
  16. I'm not so sure about that. Pre #metoo I could see it, but these days it's tougher to imagine, especially with 24 accusers. Latest lawsuits are characterizing him as a serial predator, and there is still the possibility of police involvement.
  17. Yeah, The Athletic is subscription only. Worth it, though. I think they've got a dollar a month special on right now.
  18. Gurley is a free agent. There was a rumor that we worked him out but it came from a phony source.
  19. Sewell went #5 to the Bengals in this mock.
  20. Perhaps should have put this in the draft sub forum but the mods can move it if they're so inclined.
  21. Lance isn't Newton. Sometimes I think people forget just how special an athlete Cam Newton was.
  22. From what I've read, he is (at least for the moment) the starter in Atlanta. It's possible he chose the Falcons for that reason. I honestly think that's a mistake. Based on what I saw of him last year, he's much better suited to be a top end backup than a full time starter.
