Yeah, it's basically a "no comment" (which is wise). As far as the larger context of prior comments, maybe that's valid but I'm not gonna put a load of effort beyond a basic internet search into finding it.

Given. As to those actual comments, the only thing I've been able to find on it is an end of season interview on the team site that keeps resetting itself when I try to watch it, so no idea on the context.

I'm not sure I'd even trade a 6th rounder for him. He was overdrafted and looked so bad that he lost out on the backup position to a guy who wasn't drafted at all.

Newton's suggestion here is that McCaffrey was more supportive in prior comments made around the end of the season. I'm looking for what comments he might have referenced but so far haven't found anything.

I think we've got some folks on here who are so desperate to have Newton back that they'll latch onto any decently athletic quarterback and project Cam's image onto him. "Oh, he can run? It's like Cam all over again." Heck, I even had somebody try and tell me the style of offense we use needs a running quarterback (not even remotely true). Honestly, I'm not sure people remember or understand just how much of an athletic marvel Newton really was. That size-speed combination is not exactly a common thing, and definitely not among quarterbacks. Folks need to realize we're not getting Cam Newton back. Hell, the next QB we get might have a style of play completely dissimilar to Newton.

A fair amount of "scouting" by fans is actually just people trying to convince themselves that the Panthers will take their favorite player. Sometimes it involves rationalizing bad takes in order to do that.

The offense was modeled on Drew Brees. Nobody was ever scared of Drew Brees running on them. A WCO like we run only needs a QB who can move around in the pocket when necessary. Having a guy who's also a run threat is nice, but not at all necessary. If we were still running Rivera's style of offense maybe, but we're not. Far from it.

Regardless of your feelings about Wilson, comparisons to Johnny Manziel are as flat out stupid as anything we've seen on this board.

No we don't, not for the offense we run. As for finding the next Cam, quarterbacks with his combination of characteristics don't exactly grow on trees.

McClain's been saying that for a while but nobody wanted to listen. I do think the Raiders will probably be willing to part with Carr. There was talk of it last year, and heaven knows Jon Gruden is always willing to change quarterbacks.

Don't know, but they could always trade to someone who will.
