  1. If the guy running your coaching search is someone like David Tepper, that answer gets you a "thank you for coming". If it's being run by Chris Spielman though, "Hell yeah! You're hired!"
  2. Yeah, and although the NFL has taken some steps to correct the problem, it's still true that being successful frequently winds up hurting you.
  3. I don't think race is a factor in this particular instance. That doesn't exclude it from being a factor in other cases.
  4. His path does kind of mirror Ron Rivera's on that front. Who's involved makes a difference too. Take Detroit. One of the guys spearheading their search was Chris Spielman. That probably goes a long way toward explaining how Dan Campbell got the job. There's also the "who you know" element like with Nick Sirianni. Common belief is that his connection with Frank Reich helped get him that job because Reich was good for Carson Wentz.
  5. For my part, I'd probably have taken Bieniemy over Leslie Frazier. Frazier's already been a head coach once and it didn't go that well. And going back to a prior discussion, I still think Bieniemy's enthusiasm for working with Newton probably hurt his chances here.
  6. Also to clarify, there's been no confirmation that Bieniemy dropped out. It's possible he might have, but nobody's saying anything like that (that I've seen anyway). There was a guy saying beforehand that he wouldn't even interview, but obviously that turned out not to be true.
  7. I don't know whether McNair is racist. I grant it's possible. I do know he's stupid. The operative guy in the coaching search right now though is Nick Caserio. He basically threw out everything that happened before he was hired and started it over.
  8. So they're down to two black candidates, but they're still racist?
  9. It'd be kind of hard to pin a racial element to the Texans coaching search given that both their remaining candidates are black. Granted, they're morons, just not necessarily racist morons.
  10. Don't know if this has been posted, but
  11. He actually just took a college job (DC at the University of Missouri). If I were McDermott though, I'd probably go with Bob Babich.
  12. Side Note: If the Texans were to choose Leslie Frazier, our old buddy Eric Washington could be in line for a defensive coordinator job again. I don't know that it'd be a good idea, but hey...
  13. From what I've read, Bridgewater's contract is only a problem this year. It's conceivable at least that another veteran could be brought in and one year of "bullet biting" might take place with an eye towards the future.
  14. I've seen suggestions from more than one source that he's not very good at interviewing. There were (unverified) reports that his interview with the Panthers was a disaster.
  15. I think I might be able to see where this is heading.
  16. I said prior to the championship game that the loser might turn out to be the winner as far as this job because they'd be available to start sooner.
  17. Per John McClain... According to Aaron Wilson, part of the reason behind David Culley being a candidate is that he and DeShaun Watson got along really well when the Ravens staff coached Watson in the Pro Bowl. Given that he wasn't really on anyone else's radar, this seems like it would be total deference to Watson.
  18. Agreed. That's likely gonna lead to a lot of disappointment though. Quarterbacks like Mahomes, Rodgers and Brady don't exactly grow on trees. it's kinda like deciding to dump your girlfriend because she isn't as hot as Margot Robbie.
  19. Analysts have been talking about when "the quarterback bubble" is going to burst for a while now.
  20. Truth be told, the success of Tampa probably helps grease the skids here. Rational or not, people see the Bucs getting to the Super Bowl in year one with Brady and think 'we could do that".
  21. They'll get one, and quite possibly more. Rapoport said at least a third of the league has already called the Lions about Stafford. I don't know that they'll get it from us, but that's a seller's market.
  22. We used to talk about members of the hundred million dollar quarterback club having no Super Bowl victories. From what I know, they still don't have much to speak of. Teams are spending ridiculous amounts of money on the quarterback spot and not getting an ideal return on investment.
  23. Yes, first round picks can bust, but if your team is so bad at drafting that they pick three or four busts straight, you've got deeper problems than any one player (including a star quarterback) can solve.
