  1. I'm not either, but I remember that being a theory some folks here bought into.
  2. Fitterer ran the personnel department, scouting and all of that, exactly what a GM typically does. He could make recommendations, but didn't have the final call. It's kind of like what Jay Gruden described from his time in Washington, only with the head coach instead of the owner. Insiders have helped fill in the blanks. A couple of the things mentioned were that the quarterback decisions all fell to Rhule, who wasn't a big fan of rookies. He wanted Mayfield, and got him, but that offseason Fitterer repeatedly talked about building around a rookie being the right way to go in a manner that almost made it sound like he was arguing a point. What it ultimately sounds like is that internally, Fitterer pushed for the team to draft a quarterback. Not necessarily a specific quarterback, but a quarterback. Corral ended up being the guy, a lot of which had to do with Ben McAdoo. After the draft, Rhule got the veteran he wanted. Fitterer still wanted to try and build around a rookie, but he wasn't going to have that opportunity under Rhule. Then Rhule was fired, Reich was hired, and here we are.
  3. One of the things I caught watching the press conference was Fitterer's expression when he talked about how young (emphasized "young") the offensive line is as a group. But yeah, that's what we want.
  4. I'm actually kinda interested in the first few Michigan games now...
  5. Not many will get this reference but this guy's name sounds like a stereotypical rich kid character in a show like Dobie Gillis. The only thing that's missing is a suffix like "the third".
  6. I didn't really need anyone to lower my expectations. They were already low. And honestly, I won't feel too bad if this season is mediocre. I remember we overachieved in Gettleman's first season as a GM. Some folks actually felt that set us back. There's an argument to be made...
  7. Except he didn't. That's documented. What he's done though is act like a man and take ownership rather than just blaming somebody else. In his post firing comments, Rhule did the exact opposite.
  8. One more former Panther gets picked up...
  9. Or Rhule, for that matter. That's the kind of response you should expect from a professional.
  10. "If we don't make the playoffs in Year One, fire everybody!!!"
  11. Pretty much. I know people were talking playoffs and stuff given the division, but some of us have already said we wanted to pump the brakes on that.
  12. Hurney should have been fired no matter who the coach was. Schultz mentioned wondering what could have been if he'd been fired before Rivera. I added he's not the only one who wonders about that. And no, that doesn't bolster your argument. Actually it's another point against it. Guessing you didn't read that too carefully
  13. Wish I knew. I tried to discount it when it was first happening, but she's been consistent
  14. Pretty sure Corral goes to the practice squad...or potentially elsewhere, I suppose.
  15. Brandt was primarily discussed on here for his initial evaluation of Cam Newton, but he has a much longer history than just that. RIP to one of the great personnel guys of NFL history.
