It's not like Tepper hired him over Marty's objections. And as mentioned, the flight was just a logistical thing. Go back and read the stories about Rhule's interview. You'll see plenty of examples of David Tepper giving Marty Hurney loads of credit.

It is true though that an RPO based offense isn't the same thing as a read option scheme. And honestly, I have a hard time picturing Newton running McAdoo's offense.

Not so sure Steve Wilks is on board with that...

Oh yeah...

So I guess this isn't happening...

Ben Johnson, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn, Brian Flores, Ken Dorsey

Johnson might turn out to be your best bet to get Luke Kuechly on staff. He was part of the Boston College coaching staff for all three years of Kuechley's time there. -
Just saw that. Yeah, that ought to be interesting. Might see more of this sort of thing too.

Marty led the search that picked Rhule as a candidate. And according to Tepper's own story, he was the first one to recognize that Rhule was "their guy" and they needed to go into "recruiting mode". As far as Tepper flying out, that was largely for logistic reasons because Rhule's family was just returning from vacation. Tepper met personally with every single candidate.

I have serious questions about whether he'd be able to duplicate his success in New Orleans. That, combined with what we would likely have to give up to acquire him makes me gun shy.

If you're a fan of Steichen, you're probably gonna want to keep a close watch on the Chargers. Rumors are the team is not happy with Brandon Staley, and heaven knows the Spanos family can do some off the wall things. As to Steichen, nearly all of his coaching history is there. He's well-known and popular in the organization.

Rhule was definitely his parting gift to us…

Hard to believe, but given that he’s saddled with a staff he didn’t choose and stuck with an offense that’s underperforming at epic levels, he might actually be in an even worse situation than he was in Arizona.
-
Totally agree. In his last try, he was part of a sh-tty organization (I know, insert comment here) and wasn’t given a fair shake. This time, he’s behind the 8 ball, but I’m hoping he gets a fair evaluation. I know everyone wants a top pick, but you can’t not root for Wilks.

If you’re looking for a different outcome from last season, you’re probably going to be disappointed. I know everyone wants to see Newton get a chance to ride off into the sunset, but it’s just not likely to happen.

Matt Rhule has made me stop caring about this team

Well, no problem anymore -
Officially official…

If you’re serious about winning, Brian Flores is the coach
Mr. Scot replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem with a lot of Belichick disciples is they come in acting like Belichick from day one despite not havin earned that kind of respect yet. The stories that came out about Flores Miami tenure certainly fit that description. -
-
For one, he has connections and is well respected around the league. For another, he actually knows football well enough to ask meaningful questions (and know the right answers) For yet another, he'd have Dan Morgan working alongside him. And last but most certainly not least, he's not David Tepper.

A little added context...
-
I really don't get why people think someone is going to come in and miraculously start winning, especially when you consider a good portion of the staff probably leaves with him (Snow, for one).

I think people overrate Flores because he was fired at a time when he probably didn't deserve to be. But if you think he's something special, I'm not sure you're looking at the whole picture. -
