  1. Mayfield looked bad. The offensive line blocking for him looked bad. The skill players were mostly invisible. The playcalling didn't do us any favors The defensive position groups all looked bad individually. The defense as a unit looked horrible. Now, when you can point to the rest of the team being at least half decent and the quarterback looking bad, then you can put the burden of the blame on him for his performance. When every unit looks bad, that's on coaching.
  2. Honestly, it's mostly just a bunch of excuses trying to put the blame on Mayfield and deflect it away from the coaching.
  3. That or a picture of Deshaun Watson in just a towel
  4. If Mayfield would have tackled better, our run defense wouldn't have been so bad
  5. Payton is talking about a professional approach to quarterbacking and play calling, and cites Chip Kelly as an antithesis to what he's talking about. It's kind of difficult not to hear that and not reflect on the fact that we have a college coach.
  6. It looks like a run play to me too. Again though with that said, it's kind of hard to suggest that the play was drawn up the way it came out.
  7. If you made Simon Cowell a football coach, he'd be Mike Martz.
  8. He's actually right as far as a strict stats perspective. That said, I'm not sure if anybody has stated whether the play was intended to be a run or not.
  9. I think Gantt mentioned it when he was talking about Fitterer's approach being commonplace for today. It goes together with the "quarterback on a rookie contract" approach that's so popular these days Doubt I could find the article but I've heard it said by others as well.
  10. Starting with... That sounds...optimistic Holy sh-t, that's a big dude! And finally, Mike Martz analyzes the quarterback performances in the Bears-49ers game for The 33rd Team, and...
  11. Re: The Browns... I get that this is a joke but I don't know what it pertains to
  12. Similar feelings... The one thing I would say about the cap is from what I've read, this is the way most teams are doing it now. Basically, spend to the limit and adjust on the fly. Each season is "all in". I'm not at all a fan of that approach but apparently that's the way things are going
  13. They seemed to know enough. If he audibled, yeah I'd give ya that. Ultimate result is poorly executed either way.
  14. Rivera's post-game comments drove me nuts. He never took responsibility for anything.
  15. If they actually did come out and say something specific, he probably would sue...and he'd likely win. My guess is that's why it's remained unknown, except to the teams.
  16. Understood, but I'm speaking in general. We weren't threatening anybody with the run at that point, and definitely not enough for it to be an option in those situations.
  17. Saw that when it happened. I cringed Doesn't help that they likely knew we weren't running the ball at the time.
  18. It's just one game, but it's kinda not. We saw the run defense be garbage through most of last year. That it starts off looking the same is...discouraging.
