  1. Manning looked that way initially and figured it out but Howell is very far from Manning's class of QB even when just comparing that college to pro jump. I know you are a Heel fan but the reasons to move on from Howell in Washington were sound. Dropping him into another scenario where he doesn't have a team that can elevate him is probably very unlikely to work out. If you really want him to be successful, he needs to be riding the pine for a few seasons and getting up to speed. Behind a guy like Geno is a good place. He was a guy that made that later career jump.
  2. Rush or Stidham are basically 3rd string QB's. That would be an upgrade over Plummer, I suppose but at a much higher price tag.
  3. Well one is my personal projection but Howell has enough tape for me to personally put him in that "TO prone gunslinger" category. It is possible that he eventually develops a much better sense of reading the field and gets that reigned in but that is likely after several years as a backup QB working on that. That really does nothing for us. Remember that the "projects" that Canales gets credit for(likely unfairly so) were both multi-year veterans of the NFL. Howell is not.
  4. I basically detailed out in the Sam Howell thread why guys like Winston are not long term viable candidates in the modern NFL. The game has just shifted away from highly TO prone gunslingers.
  5. That situation makes very little sense. We are a franchise very far from win now mode(and utterly in disarray) and Wilson is a player very late in his career. I could not fathom why he would ever consider us.
  6. In the 2025 class, absolutely not. Those guys will just be happy to be there. Not a strong class at all on paper.
  7. Oh, Daniels is very clearly more talented, IMO. He was my #1 QB in that class.
  8. Notice how the Pats are sitting a guy that needs a lot of polish behind a long tenured veteran in a tough spot from a roster talent standpoint. Should have been how it was for Bryce.
  9. Russell Wilson is the only one clearly better than Dalton. He is also the least likely to come here and the least likely for us to afford. I would say that list shows that we really better nail the QB in the coming draft.
  10. I think the small hope was to see some sort of design or inkling of any comptence. That seems unlikely at this point.
  11. Different types of QB's. Howell is a less accurate, gunslinger type QB that has high TO's. That's just who he is. Typical Winston/Favre type. If this were a different era the Winston/Howell gunslingers would be lauded. But, alas, in the modern NFL being TO prone is anathema to the typical offense. It's not that Howell doesn't have talent but backbreaking TO's just limit your usefuleness. Reference Howell's year or Winston's 30/30 season. The same reason you are in the game is the reason you might immediately be out of it. I am not saying he isn't an upgrade over what we have(versus Dalton is debatable depending on how you look at it) but it's very unlikely to lead us to prominence as a franchise.
  12. Canales has very heavy "yes" man vibes, IMO. I hope he isn't like that behind the scenes.
  13. Chasing backup caliber QB's would be a very Panthers thing to do. He's no more an answer to our woes than Gardner Minshew is. An upgrade perhaps but being mired in the 5-8 win range isn't desirable either. Keep in mind he was very quickly jettisoned by the Redskins for better options.
  14. Baker was good before he got to us, so that is a bad example. Darnold is still bad. Anyone buying fool's gold is going to be very disappointed when they go to collect at seasons end. Don't be fooled by "Panthers 3-0 Darnold." The real story is plain as day.
  15. I think 4 wins is really probably an extreme best case scenario. I said 3-5 before the season but I am thinking 0-3 is a lot more realistic. I do believe we are indeed as bad as we look. The offense will improve but the team will still be very bad overall.
  16. Oh yeah, it will be post draft for sure. I think Dalton has plenty of mileage left but his ceiling is just going to get lower as the years roll on. He might slip from average-ish to below average to eventually backup QB only. It's the backside of his career but I don't see him falling off a cliff in the next 2-3. Regardless, he isn't the future so you don't build around him.
  17. I think he gets moved in the offseason. I expect at whatever small price we can get.
