This Allen comp is crazy. They are completely different players and Allen has a rocket. Not a fair comparison at all. Selling yourself on Willis is incredibly tricky. He isn’t as good a passer as Cam was coming out. He is ridiculously raw reading defenses and isn’t accurate at all. He is a late round QB guess type pick. If he becomes something great he is amazing If a player like Dwayne Haskins was in this draft he would go before Willis every time. The draft process tends to make a great QB out of the unknown.

My point was that he was inconsistent against Liberty competition. I waffle on his talent but seriously Willis is a bust. I hope I am wrong but he has too much to overcome. Pickett has a better chance to stick as a backup
-
He didn’t perform against any decent defenses. This is fact. I can’t get past that Willis had to transfer to play. He didn’t go to Ohio State he went to Liberty. He was third choice at Auburn and their QBs were very average If he looked amazing against Liberty comp should be seriously evaluated. Looking at those games he was all over the place. Not efficient, and not reading defenses.

Zach Wilson goes #1 without question in this draft. Even knowing what we know. Corral is extremely raw and to be honest I don’t see a starting QB. There are much better options. Corral is a 3rd round pick IMO

Mack Brown talking about Howell is hilarious. He comes in at 7am to turn the lights on and Howell is working out. He said the guy is a gym rat. Seriously asked if he sleeps. This guy is ridiculous with his work
-
I personally keep coming back to Sam Howell. I don’t care where he played. Big arm, processes quickly and a leader and competitive guy that has no fear. Can maneuver in the pocket naturally. Leads effortlessly. He has as good a chance as any of these QBs to be special
-
I hear you but the talent difference between Liberty and the NFL is massive. Not saying he can’t do it but he has an amazing leap to overcome
-
There is another argument that if you are picking in the top 5 (yeah we are 6)…you want to pick the player most likely to be a Hall of Fame player. Regardless of position or need. Willis is an amazing stretch with this in mind. Kyle Hamilton is that guy IMO.

Willis has that pop factor on tape, the dude can make amazing throws. Is he consistent? No. Can he stay in the pocket and find multiple reads? Right now no, not at this level. Has he shown that he can perform against elite college defenses? Hell no. Willis is a swing for the fences. However, if this dude commits himself to the craft he can be good. I Seriously question if he is a Super Bowl winning QB but it isn’t impossible. Being realistic his bust factor is higher than his greatness factor. Way, way higher

Naw man…they have actually built the roster well so far…especially on defense. Don’t buy into all the bullshet talk. These guys can make this happen Figuring out QB and OL (in an OL depleted league) isn’t easy. There is no magic wand
-
I don’t think Fitty and Rhule are the total morons they are made out to be here. Willis is definitely in play at 6 IMO. Do agree OL will get big dollars in FA

Love your content Verge, don’t forget about us when you hit it big! Most interesting article I have read in a while. Thank you! Your comps were just spot on…great, great article

Clearing space is a good sign. We are clearly looking to be very active in FA prior to the draft.
-
So how do you currently rank these QBs? I know you put a lot of time into scouting them. Feels like Willis is rising a bit but not sure myself.

Sorry but totally disagree about his hand size not mattering when the guy had 27 fumbles in college. Is it a complete deal breaker? No, but it absolutely matters

“A lot of mid-tier prospects, but no franchise QB”
Shocker replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Anyone that sees a franchise QB is this draft has a crystal ball. There isn’t one period. Take the best player or look like an azhole later Cam Newton vs Malik Willis…jesus they could not be farther than equals. Hilarious. Cam was light years better …in every way including passing -
Seriously Malik will probably bust miserably. There isn’t a QB in this draft. Taking him to avoid Pickett isn’t a reason to take him but damn it would be better. Take the top OL and move on…please
-
I understand the frustration but you absolutely can leave Charlotte. It is not impossible and you know that. It would be extremely hard. However, don’t feel defeated. All and I mean all options are open to you now. Your frame of mind should move to opportunities. Don’t limit your options. This includes switching fields all together. What do you love doing? Find something you like doing and you will be great. Money only matters if you don’t have enough to satisfy yourself
-
You definitely aren’t wrong with the concerns. Agree he needs time, perhaps a lot of time but the upside is there. If we do pass and he becomes something special that will suck worse than him failing. You can move on from QBs much easier than the old days when they received ridiculous money up front. He is very far from a consistent passer which is an incredible red flag. He has a lot of red flags to be honest, but when you got nothing, you got nothing to lose. Pickett will be an absolute bust IMO. Upside isn’t there

Liberty QB Malik Willis met with the Panthers
Shocker replied to MechaZain's topic in Carolina Panthers
On the First Draft podcast Todd McShay said he has heard that teams will just start him early and work through it. Teams appear to think he can handle the curve mentally so why not. Interesting with him coming from Liberty but he has some maturity and mental make up that is impressing people. I wouldn’t take him at six if I were the GM but I wouldn’t hate it if we did No clue how we fix OL at that point but we would probably throw some big money around in FA -
Fitty would have to be a Jedi and Merlin to get them to make this deal. They probably wouldn’t slam the phone down if we offered Jaycee Horn for 19 but I don’t want to go there personally

I can’t find anything at all wrong with this move.
