as I said in my most recent post. I am fully aware the majority of the board probably doesn't have the stomach for what it will cost to get Stroud. and based on recent trades at the top of the draft? The cost likely is more than the numbers you are suggesting. But fug it. That's where I am at. Worst case scenario we are no worse than we have been in terms of fielding a competitive team. Manning, Luck and Trevor. That's it. Those IMO are the only 3 QBs I can name in the last couple decades that you could sleep well at night making a BIG move for. Just thought their floors were so high you couldn't fug up that badly. Everyone else I would have felt uneasy about.

I don't think most here have the stomach for what it will cost to get Stroud. The chart hasn't been very accurate of late and most people that suggest what they are comfortable with giving up......aren't even hitting the numbers on the chart. And the league has been above that of late. But I don't care. Worst case scenario if we swing and miss.....we will be about what we have been of late regardless. You can swing big and miss and still be what the Panthers have been the last half decade.

I think we should make a move for Stroud. Sign Jacoby Brissett. Roll with Stroud, Brissett, and Corral. and see where you can get Stroud. If you can get him close just go ahead and start the growing process. If he isn't ready, you open the year w/ Brissett. Brissett makes the most sense to be the vet leader in what I assume will be Frank's O more so than whatever OC we bring in.

Bears have indicated the pick is for sale. Not Fields.
-
Bears aren't trading Fields. The problem in Chicago isn't Fields. That's like watching Trevor his rookie year and thinking he was the problem with the Jags. They are going to take a king's ransom for the #1 pick. Young and Stroud aren't actually much different prospects entering the draft than Fields was. And unlike Young and Stroud, the Bears knows Fields can be huge playmaker at this level. Which isn't known about the draft picks. Fields just needs to be in a good O scheme with weapons.....and just to continue developing. I mean, it does take commitment from an org to want to build around the type QB Fields is. Not all want to do that. Which is the real question. It's like Cam or Hurts or Lamar or even Allen to an extent.

Is he top 16? To non-Panther fans?

I think the jury is still out to some degree. It’s improving. It feasted on some bad run defenses. Which is still something Especially minus CMC.. And then vs some good run defenses we could barely rush for 50 yards on the day repeatedly. was very Jekyll and Hyde in terms of our run game. Awesome or they couldn’t get the job done. or maybe that’s a sign that Foreman isn’t good enough vs a good run D. Who knows.

I mean, you can’t compare Trevor Lawrence or Tua with Sam Darnold’s upcoming 6th year. They blew up in year 2 (Trevor) and 3. Which is basically what and when you are looking for in a draft pick. And Tua was winning and statistically good before they blew up in year 3. Goff? Rattled off 4 winning seasons and pro bowls. Was he what they wanted? Nope. So he got sent packing. They wanted more. Giving up on him being what you wanted doesn’t equate to basically Sam Darnold. Darnold has never even sniffed individual production of Daniel Jones rookie season. Sam Darnold is his own thing. All the real comparables to Sam are got deemed irrelevant much sooner. Any QB still being talked about after 5 seasons accomplished things Sam never was able to

I wasn't too impressed with Steichen's play calling
CRA replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eagles O did have the most yards, points, best 3rd down %, most first downs, TOP, etc. that scoop and score off the fumble was huge.- 45 replies

I mean, his OL didn't just fail him. They got comically thin because of injury. And Mahomes was still a magician that game too. He would perform some miracle and then folks would drop the ball. It was a complete implosion all around him.

It's not easy. I don't think people are acting like it is easy.....they want the Panthers to start swinging. this whole, grab and a reject and hope one falls into your lap approach doesn't suit a lot of people. We passed the last time a high prospect QB fell in our laps on top of that. So even when you get that rare solar eclipse, we haven't taken advantage of it.
-
truth. our offense is a low end 1 WR and literally nothing else.
-
I don't think it lessens the point at all. It reinforces how important the QB spot is from my vantage point. there were tons of better teams out there each year Brady was winning. and yeah, I think the point is to go find a HOF type player. That's who can consistently compete for championships. If you don't have that? Well, you are just praying for some obscure season playing out for you.
-
32 teams. In the last two decades......only 11 QBs have won the Super Bowl.
-
It's not the right answer I don't think because of the trade but Eli IMO should qualify. He was the #1 overall pick and won it for the Giants.
-
no guarantee the 2024 class will actually be loaded though. a lot can change in a season. The locks to be contending for a Heisman sometimes don't have the season so many think are givens.
-
So....again, what do you call a team with a losing record that played a very easy schedule? And they were really trash at end of the season. 2nd half of the season after the bye week any good team beat Tampa by double digits. And bad teams like the Browns, Falcons, etc. could even take them. Which is the window we are discussing. You skipped over all that. What's your issue with calling Tampa what it was in the context of the game being discussed? Trash.
-
I think there are 2 QBs this draft worth trying to get. Every draft is different. and if you don't have a QB and haven't' had a QB for a long time.....you have to start trying to get them. I fully support Carolina trying to get one. You can't play the wait for one to fall to you always. It rarely happens. And like Fields or not. Carolina already missed that. It happened for us. It doesn't happen often.
-
there isn't much difference between a 1 and 10 pick. It's just team preference at the top who goes at the very top. Cam was the #1 overall. If we hadn't occupied the spot he likely doesn't go #1 overall. He wasn't viewed as a consensus #1.
-
Yes, Tampa Bay was NOT a good TEAM in 2022. Hence the losing record they had despite having a very easy schedule. supporting or creating a narrative? Didn't you follow Sam Darnold here from NY? The guy still rocking the Sam drawing in his avatar?
-
I’ve literally been arguing against the claim he was one of the best QBs in the NFL last year down the stretch…. and the notion that he was actually good in 2022. He wasn’t. Also I have argued with the notion Sam’s 6 game stretch should or can be all that is discussed when talking about if he should occupy a roster spot going forward. It can’t be. You have taken issue with those arguments, correct? Past is relevant when talking the future though. Sam’s prior play. All of it. As well as the stench of the horrific Rhule era lingering still. Cam could sniff out the stink both times we brought him to Carolina. We need new folks in the most important room IMO. Need the right mentality and people. Especially from the vet spot in the QB room.
-
I might be a Rhule PTSD survivor. Y’all straight tripping on LSD with this Darnold Eather stuff though. I was right on Rhule after 2021. It was super easy to be right on Rhule after 2021. Sam is a similar type layup. But here you are arguing we witnessed greatness.
-
I don't think he lost that game for us. But that doesn't mean anything. Whatever someone's take is on that one game doesn't change anything. He was decent that game. Which can be said about 2018 or 19 or 20 or 21 Sam. Those games have always existed. Again, the history of Sam is pretty consistent. But he didn't play great. And one okay game with a lot of good and bad certainly isn't a case he was one of the best QBs in the NFL down the stretch.
-
folks claiming he was one of the best in the NFL last year. Yall basically up in here trying to pull off some flat earth theory. Darnold Earthers.
-
I see....you just flat out trolling. This is Matt Rhule level trolling after his 2021 season. During the last 6 games of the season.....Sam was bottom of the league in yards per game. Bottom of the league in completion %. He put the ball on the ground more than any QB in the league during that span by far. but yeah, he had a nice TD/INT ratio.....where he wasn't even throwing a TD per game. That's what you are claiming makes him one of the best QBs in the game in that stretch? Literally all Sam did was not throw absurd INTS. That's it. Talk about a joke bar. One of the best in the league?! There is no statistical argument to even come close to that. This Sam Darnold gaslighting is something else.
